It went colder all at once, heavier, like the temperature in the room had dropped several degrees. The feeling of someone's dangerous eyes on me was so sharp it was almost physical. I turned to look at that intensity. Magnus had just come in from outside, wearing nothing but his pants, his entire body painted in blood. My heart stopped beating. Was it his blood? Part of me wanted to go to him, wanted to ask if he was okay.. but I knew better. Chloe spotted him and rushed toward him, but Magnus wasn't looking at her. He was looking at me.

"Uh, oh… sorry about that. I didn't realize that you had a mate. And it’s Nix, that’s unbelievable. Sorry and congratulations to both of you." I accepted his apology. "No worries. No harm done." The girl shook her head at his denseness. "I'm Chloe, and this is Greg and Soren." Greg shook my hand. "If you didn't pick it up, Chloe is my mate." I said, "Yes, I noticed." I tilted my head as I examined Soren. "And your mate is Cassie from the library, right? I met her earlier today, she seems nice." Soren shook his head. "No, I haven't met my mate yet."

Although he expected some type of repercussion to come his way after his encounter with Oscar, Jasper wasn’t prepared for the chaos that ensued when half a dozen vampire guards burst into the room. Acting upon instinct, he lept over the back of the sofa that he’d been resting on and scrambled to the far end of the room. He was so preoccupied with escaping the grasps of the exceedingly fast vampires as they closed in on him that he failed to recognize that he was not only equally as fast as they were, but when he lept into the air, he really lept! It wasn’t until they had him securely captured and were dragging him out of the room that their complaints about his strength and speed sank in.

He just followed her but hid himself behind a bookshelf next to the one she was checking at. She found the book Zalmoxis—or more likely, her hand found the book. She took it while she blinked in curiosity, heart pounding so fast. She felt the book vibrate at her touch. She ran her tongue across her lips and looked for a table where she could sit down and scan it.

I won’t let that happen, the culprit must be brought to book. As I returned into the hall, several people had their eyes fixed on me. Ignoring them, I made my way to the section reserved for special guests that worked to make the project a huge success. There were five level staircases to pass before arriving at that section. Because I was lost in thoughts, I missed the third level and tripped. I widened my eyes and arms as I anticipated to be on the ground with blood gushing out of my head. To my shock, I feel into someone’s arms. Looking back, I couldn’t believe who just saved me, it was none other than Caleb.
