A sharp pain lanced through my skull, my vision blurring. What… what had I just done? I had never felt power like that before, so absolute, so uncontrollable. The taste of blood filled my mouth where the fabric had cut my tongue. "When they get here, I hope you keep that same attitude. Don't you dare beg for mercy." In the distance, I heard shouting. Male voices, calling my name with panic I'd never heard from them before. "Right on time," Scarlett whispered, her eyes lighting up with manic glee. Two figures appeared at the edge of the clearing - Kieran and Ryan, both breathing hard like they'd been running. Their faces were masks of barely controlled terror. "Scarlett!" Ryan's voice cut through the air like a whip. "Let her go!"
