Saving Grace
Holding the strap of her bag tightly, it felt as if her entire life depended on her grip.
The man stood tall, his sunglasses still on despite the absence of sunlight, and that made her even more suspicious and weary. Her wariness heightened as he removed the glasses, revealing the reason for their use. One of his eyes was missing, a clear sign of a past injury; like a knife fight or something like that, perhaps from a violent encounter with an equally violent person. It was as if he tried to conceal the absence of his eye, although an eye patch might have been a more conventional choice.
