~Marlowe~ Two days had passed since my introduction to the members of Rook's club, and I was now trying to decide if I'd been dropped down Alice's rabbit hole, or picked up by Dorothy's tornado and carried to the land of OZ. The bar where I had been working, as well lived above, had caught fire while I'd been with Rook. The fire had been a threat against the Sons Of Morning Star from a rival club, showing them there wasn't anyone they couldn't reach. Not long after, the compound had been attacked. As a result the members of SOMS had gone into hiding.

In a flash of an eye all three of them were dire wolves running through the woods, wild, free. Not for long, Pearl knew she needed to go back to the mortal realm and save Ethan. END OF BOOK 1

The mane on his head turned red, but he ran on and disappeared into the next side street with the rest of the pack. "Damn it!" Maddox cursed, reloading his rifle and starting the chase with the other Venators. The monsters were not allowed to escape.

It was no ordinary book and neither was it meant for ordinary people. ‘’I need to get something for myself’’ Mara says walking onto the shelf hidden at the far end of the room. It is composed of books from history to spell casting and some hybrid notifications. She was not interested in any of the books, not until the red cover book fell to the ground catching her attention. ‘’Ways to make it work’’ the title read. Mara had no idea of what the book was about; those words were all it had and the back was completely plain and painted red.

Blood seeps through my fingers, and I know I've been hit. "Nora!" Marybelle cries, dodging an attack and running towards me. "I'm okay," I grit out, though the pain is terrible. I try to stand, and my legs buckle beneath me. But I'm not done yet. I take a deep breath and send a blast of white magic towards the remaining hunters. They're thrown back, and the forest is silent. The Silver Hunters are dead or gone, and we're still alive. I look at my companions, and we all share a moment of relief.

Ard'al helped the boys up out of the trap door and tried to keep them from seeing the carnage that had destroyed their home. He knew that rogue werewolves were dangerous, but he never could have imagined that this one would kill so many people. This rogue was rare however because it had been an Alpha that had been beaten but not killed for his position. The first kill had been three weeks ago three villages over. The council had gotten word immediately of the killing and had sent him and his men out to investigate. Ten bodies later and it was finally over.

And together… we were unstoppable. As the night stretched into a tense vigil, I realized one thing with absolute certainty: the rogue’s return was only the beginning. Her shadow hung over the Crescent pack, a storm waiting to erupt, and when it did… we would be ready. And I, Mara, bonded to Dresden, wolf and human united, would face whatever came with fire in my veins, claws ready, and heart unbroken. The rogue had shown us a glimpse of the chaos to come… and next time, we would not be caught unprepared.

As if there was not already a perpetual fear in the hues of her eyes, her expression had suddenly become more terrified than ever. "Oh no…" "What?" "Move!" Mara jumped out of her bed, pushing Matthias out of the way. She dropped down to her hands and knees and frantically scanned underneath the bed. "What are you doing?" Matthias pressed, but Mara did not answer. She let out a deep sigh of relief as she pulled from under her bed what appeared to be an old and tattered leather-bound book. "What is that? I've never seen that before." Matthias stepped forward and took the book from her hands. Mara looked as though she wanted to protest before lowering her head again in shame.

It had to be the Marchettis, retaliating for the territory expansion. But why take her instead of just killing her? Leverage. They wanted leverage against him. Or worse—they wanted to hurt him by hurting her. He reached the facility in record time, barely parking before he was inside. The scene told the story—spent shell casings, blood trails, signs of intense combat. Arabelle had fought hard. Her recruits were huddled together, Clara trying to comfort them. When they saw Dante, they all started talking at once. "She saved us—"
