I countered, my tone defiant as I challenged his reasoning.
"What's the difference?" he asked, his gaze fixed on my untouched plate of food.
"I am serious. You can't go around actually committing crimes," he insisted, “You broke into a multimillion dollar company.
"Don't worry, I have done quite a few heists without any murders or casualties. I never got caught once. Now tell me you are still concerned," I retorted, attempting to lighten the mood as I pushed the plate toward him, my appetite non-existent.
"I know, but—wait… a heist. What heist? Mary, what all have you done?" he questioned, looking very confused. I stiffened at his scrutiny, feeling defensive under his probing gaze.
