ALMS TO LOVE
Her breaths tore in and out as if they were ripping her lungs.
Her vision warped.
Her hands trembled.
And her heart-her broken, bloody, burning heart-wouldn't stop screaming one thing:
Candy cried when she saw me.
She stumbled.
Collapsed to her knees.
Rain drenched her hair, mingling with her tears.
She pressed both hands against the wet earth and screamed into the storm.
“My baby… my baby…”
Her men hovered, unsure.
Marie rose slowly, her eyes turning hollow and dark as the rain. “She’s terrified of you now,” one man muttered. Marie's head snapped toward him. He said nothing more. She wiped her face with her torn sleeve. Then her voice dropped to a whisper sharper than any knife.
