“Hey, Marg,” Bran and Marina enter the bar, followed by ten of their new friends. “Can you give my new friends their first drink and charge it on my tab.” Marg raised her brow. “Friends of yours?” She was suspicious. Since when did Brandon have friends the pack didn’t know about? She tried to catch Marina’s attention, but the younger woman escaped to the ladies’ room. Who were these people and why were there so many of them? Why did they come?

Marin adjusts herself as she sees me walking towards their direction, as if I had not seen how clingy she was with Eric. I know Eric will make a good boyfriend for her, but he was already in a relationship with Sophie, Wes’s sister. “Hiii…” she says, a wide and uncomfortable smile fills the air. “What are you doing here?” I completely ignore Eric and turn to Marin. I'm sure she must think I'm so pissed at her because I had warned her not to have anything to do with Eric. Sophie is really crazy and would go to any lengths to keep Eric as her dog. “I'm just, you know…” She looks away from me and shakes Eric, “Let's just talk some other time. See you around.”

Everything about Marina screamed scheming, and the way she looked at Lily, like she was trying to cut her down, only confirmed it. Marina chuckled, the sound sharp and fake. "Hello, Mr. Bennett. I'm Marina Laurent. Lily's good friend." Friend? My ass. Lily rolled her eyes but said nothing.

From the looks of things so far everything was going smoothly but I still couldn't shake the intense feeling of loss, I still felt like I was forgetting something very important. “Your friend, Avery was it?” I asked Angie as we came down from the car. “Yes, Avery,” Angie said, giving me a suspicious look. “Tell me about her,” I asked, feeling a need to know more about the lady I seemed to have a deep longing for. “I don't know too much, I know she is a Gamma and an orphan. She works to support herself, money is kind of tight.” She said carelessly, I could tell she wasn't saying everything but it didn't matter, I had my ways.

It's so easy for kids to switch their emotions. For me, it isn't. I still feel sour. I still feel….empty. Marinette's usually out on saturdays. She works—three days a week—at a downtown bookstore that's mostly filled with old couples. She says she likes working there because it reminds her of the happiness she once shared with Gwen's father.

Marinette scrunches her nose and then nods and says, “Okay, thanks. Could you bring me Marigold?” The woman grabs the baby out of its bassinet, and I realize that’s where the blueberry scent is coming from. Marinette smiles as she holds the baby in her arms and the woman dismisses herself. Marinette glances at me and says, “So… Chase Croft.” The way she says my name makes butterflies erupt in my stomach. She looks me up and down and says, “That name sounds familiar, have I met you before?”

She was quick to pull him back into the conversation. “Don’t be like that! It’s been hectic setting up the winery. Thankfully, Adrian helped take care of many things.” She smiled at him, a small gesture, but one that didn’t go unnoticed. Marinette shot another teasing look at Adrian. "What would we do without you, right? We’re just the extras." The girls giggled as Caelia joined in, playfully swatting Marinette’s arm. “Adrian, meet my friends. Their fathers do business with you, so they’ve been dying to meet you.”

“I do have friends that come around. But he is the one I choose to stick with. What about you? I hear you hardly make any friends.” I sniffed, twirling my glass. “I do have a friend of mine back at the pack I grew up in. And there is Marilyn and Karen, amazing people.” “That is nice. Who needs tons of friends anyway? They all just make things complicated.” “True.” I mused, taking a huge gulp of my wine. “So Mark, uhn?” I giggled. “Yeah, what do you know?” “I hear he is being an ass.”

I said, shrugging my shoulders. When we made it to the lake, Marlo crashed into me. "Hey, buddy!" I said, stopping to meet his eyes. "Hi, Matilda!" He shouted completely ignoring me. "Hey," Matilda shyly replied. "Do you want to swim with me?" he enthusiastically asked. "Okay," she agreed. "I guess I wasn't standing here," I chuckled as Marlene approached. "I totally think they are best friends or mates," Marlene laughed. "That would be nice," I smiled. "I'm so happy to see you again," Marlene said, embracing me. "I heard about Marlin. That asshole! The whole situation had me shaking in my knickers in anger every time I would see those two together," I hugged. "I'm getting better every day,"
