His dark hair was tied back neatly, his eyes sharp and calculating despite the easy smile on his lips. He wore a fitted cloak in neutral colours, no markings, no allegiance displayed, which felt suspicious. He bowed slightly. “Alpha Kael,” he said smoothly. “I bring a message that could greatly benefit Night Fang.” Every instinct in me screamed a warning. I didn't like this guy, I didn't trust him either. It was not about his smile or energy. Nor the way his gaze lingered like he was measuring everything in the room. “Speak,” I said eager to be done with him.

I read the news, chuckled softly, and hit the 'Like' button. After work, I walked across that old bridge. The sun was setting over the sparkling sea. It was finally over. I lifted my head, ready to start my new life. "Careful!" A deep voice rumbled behind me. Someone grabbed my arm to steady me. I turned and looked up at a massive man. Striking golden eyes. A pureblood aura. The scent of pine and cedarwood wrapped around me, soothing my scarred soul instantly. He was the Alpha King.

Still, I wasn’t about to take any chances. “I am your alpha king and I have told you. You will listen to me.” The disapproving growl that came from the lot of them fell on deaf ears. I hated using the alpha card with the two of them but this once, I didn’t mind. I signaled to the deltas who had been riding with Theo and one of them got out. I jumped onto the van and waved at my best friend who was still scowling in disapproval. “Your majesty. We can’t have you ride with a criminal! You are the king!”

The man answered, “I am Alpha Roman Addams from The Blood Mountain Pack. I don’t care if you’re marked. Once I mark you his mark will disappear.” I shook my head, “Not going to happen asshole.” I stomped his foot as hard as I could. I heard bones breaking and the alpha yelled as he let go of me. I quickly moved away from him and tried to get away, but he lunged for me and landed just behind me, reaching to put his arm around my neck. I grabbed his arm and flipped him over my back.

He answers, and I hold his gaze. “ Spill out everything you know!” my tone loud, there’s anger burning in my chest. “ Alpha had a business deal with other Alphas and he got lucky because it amounted to a very huge output. But the ugly part about this is that other Alphas lost in the business deal. Alpha became the richest in the city making him the Alpha King. But he did all that under your name.” he explains, and I just stare at him. I won’t lie I feel miserable after listening to what Mark just said.

“Tell me about the mad Alpha. You said he was the reason you wanted to see me? I mean apart from what we just talked about.” The Alpha King suppressed a smile and then his face took a very serious, cold and detached expression as if he wasn’t the one who just smiled seconds ago. “The fox shifters have announced an alliance with the Mad King.” He said gravely. “The announcement was made only hours ago and it spells danger for us.”

He had a distinct scar running across his left eye, but it didn’t take away from his sharply defined features. His eyes fell on me as he checked me out from top to bottom. I didn’t miss the subtle hint of a smirk on his face, “Is she the one the Alpha has been obsessed over?” Obsessed? I raised my brows and as if noticing my reaction, he grinned, “I am Markus, the Alpha King’s right hand. It's a pleasure to meet you.”
