Helen trailed off as she halted along with the others. She stared at the painting in awe while taking a step to take a closer look. Mayari too became interested and cast her gaze towards the portrait of a mermaid with dark beauty. Her long hair flowed like the black sea, in contrast with her pale white skin that glistened like white pearls, along with the black scales that framed her youthful face. Her irises captured the rayless shade of the abyss as she stared deep through the souls of her audience. Her black lips are slightly parted as she said her words in silence.

The shark, thankfully, continued on its patrol path. I felt the magic of the barrier pass through us as we emerged into the mermaid city. Its light pink and blue colors were a contrast to the dark colors of the siren cities. The mermaids had white kelp that reflected the light well, making it seem like they had a whole sun down there for them. I saw rows of crimson kelp growing along the border. I know they eat it daily to keep sirens from messing with their minds. “Okay, we’re here. What now?” I asked Dad, wondering how we would talk with a mermaid hidden amongst bubbles. It’s not like they’d be that accepting of us once they found out what we were.

In its place was one of the rarest creates on Earth. There, staring at me in confusion, was a mermaid. She had long peach-orange hair and a tail the color of the perfect honey sunset. "Shift." The currents were stable near the shoreline and didn't mix the underlying sand with the water, allowing a magnificent view. The marine life was well-preserved and abundant. The shoreline was filled with large hoards of corals including blue, red and sponge, that house a wide variety of some of the most unique fishes I had ever seen. We were surrounded by millions of small colorful fishes. It was just magical. The whole canvas was splashed with unimaginable colors. It gave me feel or Ariel the mermaid. How I wish I was a mermaid and lived here without a worry of paying bills and going to office to face Mr. Snobbish. What do mermaids eat? Raw fish or algae?

“Do not worry I will not hurt you.” The words put the young mermaid in some relief. She raised her head back up looking at Angela. Her eyes were on her legs. Strange looking things. She thought, trying to figure out what they were. The mermaid had light blue scaly skin. Her hair was long and pink. It was French braided and her hair was very full.
