AYRA "Please, the news I've gotten lately has given me enough shocks to last me a lifetime," I said dryly while tapping my fingers on the desk absentmindedly. Matt's lips curled into a deep smile, while he reached for two white envelopes on the left edge of his desk. I watched him quietly, while Raven, who had been quiet this whole time, came forward to see what he wanted to show. She was still upset about his near betrayal. After what felt like forever, he handed me a paper, and I rolled my eyes, "What's this?"

RAFAEL Funerals are supposed to be quiet, dignified things. Black clothes. Whispered prayers. And a solemn atmosphere. But this one somehow felt like a joke. Matteo's coffin sat at the front of the chapel, draped in lilies. They were his favorite, though he'd never admit it out loud. He'd said they were "too delicate for a man like him." Yeah, well, turns out he was delicate after all, wasn't he? His flesh and bone melted just as easily as anyone else's could have.

Now it was war. Allerick’s most trusted enforcer stepped through the doorway like a shadow made flesh. Rafe. The man whose silence could command a room better than most men’s roars. His tailored black coat hung from his frame like a shroud, blending into the darkness, and his sharp eyes — steel-hard, unflinching — locked onto Matteo with a force that silenced the air. One of his companions scoffed and mumbled under his breath something we could not hear. “Firstly, my name is Ezra, not Omega. Secondly, it is none of your concern how I am. You clearly have not cared at all over the last few months how I am doing so why start now. I would like to ask you for a rejection so I can either die or move on with my life. If you will not give me one then I will wait until I can feel the mate pull and reject you myself.”

She gave me a forced smile and left the room, but not before turning on the TV and exiting the room. It was a few minutes later when the door open and in walked Ryan. With Ryan walking into the room all the memories were all coming back to me. From him telling me he's a werewolf and his mate and then to him shifting into his wolf. "You're a wolf." He nodded and walked farther into the room and shut the door behind him. The more closely he came the further I scooted back from him when he notices he stopped moving. "I'm not going to hurt you. You're my mate." He said as if that meant something.

Matt had only gotten thirty hours of sleep in eight days. The sun was setting as he parked his black Ford truck in Garvey’s parking lot. He checked the mirror in his sun visor to make sure his black tie was straight and got out of the truck. Rita, Joe’s cousin and only living relative, wanted to have his wake at Garvey’s. Jackie and Jodi were gracious enough to close the bar to the general public on a Friday night. DA Jacobs and his wife walked up the sidewalk next to the bar. Matt tipped his black Stetson to Mrs. Jacobs. “Good evening,” Matt said.

"Try impossible. Why are you here, Matt? I don't understand." "I think I told you that I've taken a disability retirement from the Air Force, right?" Summer nodded. "Was that real? Were you honestly hurt?" Matt tugged up the hem of his shorts to show the bottom edge of the surgical scar on his hip. "Yeah." Then he turned to show her the collection of angry welts on his back. "Everything I ever told you in the dreams is true. You want my sister or my mom's phone numbers? Hell, look them up. They're in the book. Sarah Warren and Tanya and Mike Stephens, all of Morgan's Creek, Texas."

"It looks like we have a stalemate." "Maybe," Matt says casually. "Or maybe not." He swings the gun away from Rafe, only now he's pointing it right at me. Rafe tenses. "I'll kill you before you ever have the chance to hurt her." "Will you, though?" Matt asks. "That would kind of damage the 'good guy' act you're trying to pull off these days. I can see the headlines now - 'Rafe Fontaine: the Hollywood Killer!' The press would have a field day with it. They love it when spoiled little rich boys fall off the deep end." He laughs. As he reached Alaia and me, his face broke out into a huge smile. “Welcome home, Xander, Luna.” I could feel Alaia’s body tense up a bit when he approached, but I understood why. Matt was a warrior as well, and a well-trained one at that. He kept very fit, and with his perfect smile, dirty blond hair, and baby blue eyes, he was a lady killer without even trying. He just had an effect on women, even if it was harmless and unintentional. “Thank you, Matt. It’s good to be home. Now would you please put on a shirt so my mate can take a breath?” I said with a laugh.

God i hate Rafaele and i hope he doesn’t make it out. But Matteo? God please let him live.
