Then he jammed himself against me, squeezing the spot he’d spanked while whispering in my ear. “You like it when I touch you, don’t you?” The desire in his voice caused shivers to run down my spine. He hadn’t even entered me yet, and I could feel my eyes get teary in anticipation. I’d been around men, and no one had caused me to lose my senses like this. I thought I had control over my mind, my body, and my feelings, but that was until I met Matt. It was almost as though he had read the book where I had written all of my fantasies, and here he was, giving me exactly what I needed.

“No, thanks.” Matteo mirrored my position, his gangly legs shooting straight out, and locked in on the night sky. I’d overheard Daddy say Matteo was very smart, and he even skipped a grade last year. He said he’d be just like Mr. Vitale. Sometimes he even talked like him. Of course, I wasn’t all that impressed. After a long silence, he said, “There’re a billion stars, Nutella girl, and they all shine for you. My mama shines for my pa, but you will shine for me. Right?”

Emily erupted like a volcano and let out a loud moan as she came all over her own fingers. She couldn’t believe she just came to the thought of her God-awful stepmom. Oh well, a fantasy is a fantasy, right?

I could feel his presence at my back—tall, warm, the faint rustle of his cassock as he moved closer. I kept reading, line after line about denying the body, about offering suffering to God, about the dangers of self-indulgence. My voice shook on the parts about “touching oneself in secret” and “fantasies that defile the soul.” By the time I reached the end of the first page I was breathing faster, nipples tight against my dress, the ache between my legs worse than it had been all day. Father Chris stepped around the table so I could see him. He leaned down, one hand resting on the open book, the other hanging loose at his side. His eyes locked on mine.

Something in my heart shifted at that, and suddenly I felt the future with Matthias was far more perfect than any other fantasy. …

To distract myself I grabbed a stack of books i had gotten from Zoya. I settled on the bed, curling up with the first book. It was a fantasy novel about a brave healer and her quest to save a cursed kingdom. I couldn’t help but smile at the irony but as I turned the pages, I found myself getting invested. The healer’s struggles, her triumphs and her quiet strength it all resonated with me. Just as the story began to pull me in, a knock sounded at the door. Before I could respond, it opened and my three mates walked in. I let out a quick breath because what in beautiful world are these creatures from? I’m always blown by their presence.

Then we'd talk late into the evening hours about our day. I gave myself a mental bitch-slap and straightened. Fairy tales were nothing but pithy shit. Lies. They weren't real, and neither was the idea I could ever have something normal. Especially not with a guy as great as Matt. He may be Prince Charming, but I wasn't Cinderella. I was one of those filler characters in the background no one noticed, taking up space.
