“Sorry to say, but running for my life kicked my ass. I passed out on the couch.” I frowned, pulling the book across the counter to me as Matt kept pulling stuff out of the cabinets. “A bookstore?” He hummed. I skimmed the cover. “Potion Efficacy for the Everday…” He hummed. As I flipped through the pages, I realized that it was more of a potions textbook than a recipe book, though a lot of the dishes were ones that Matt had made. The beef stew from the night before was inside. I scanned the pages, noting Matt’s handwriting in the margins and all the sticky notes that had been added. My lips twitched. Hadn't he brought home books from college like this?

How far can he go just to get her to flirt or follow him? Matt smiled and winked at the thought. He could have been in a place where they would be happy to see each other, but why would he insist on following them from a distance? Matt had a strange feeling about it. It's a weird feeling. Feeling like it doesn't come from who he is but from who he wants to be. It feels like only mortals are alive. She was happy and smiled because she was still following him. Everything would have been fine, and he was glad that she didn't let him down until Matt felt something. "Danger," Matt senses it.

She hasn’t met her yet but Azraiel told her that Katya was now living in a cabin near Matt’s house. “She is better. She is still weak but out of danger.” Maybe it was just her overthinking but she saw his eyes soften at her name. “Great!” “Here, I want you to read these.” Matt handed her the books that he has been carrying. They were about the various supernatural species and the major events in the supernatural world.

“It’s… ridiculous, though.” “Well, aren’t most dreams? I’ve had random ones before. Wanna hear about it?” Allison couldn’t help the small smile that curved her lips. He was trying to make her feel a little better. She could afford to humor him. “Sure.” “I can remember three dreams that really stood out to me over the years,” Matthew began. “Because they were so ridiculous.” “What happened?” “Well, I was a librarian in a small town, and then all these cows suddenly kept trying to come inside the library.”

“Ok,this is going to sound insane but when I opened it, fire came out of it, literally!” “Huh...” Matt exhaled, completely accepting their friend had finally gone nuts. “Well, open it,” requested Gabriel. “Didn’t you hear what I just said?” “There’s only one way to find out...” Matt reached out to the book and let out a low yelp, quickly withdrawing his arm from the book. “What? Are you okay?” Jake reacted, watching Matt’s expression turn into a sneer then laughter. “Dude, I cannot believe you fell for that!”

she replied, getting up. As she approached, her book dropped. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did it hit you?" she asked. "No, not at all. It was I who disturbed your reading," Matthew said, picking up the book. Noticing the title, 'The Fortress' by Quentin Chronus, he looked surprised. "I didn’t expect someone as young as you to enjoy such literature." "It's written with great subtlety and irony," she said, her eyes bright with amusement. "Good literature isn’t bound by age. You like what you like, and if you don’t, age won’t change that."

Maera The night was short. I kept having these dreams. Ever since I touched Lord Fenrik’s shoulder, something in me changed. I kept seeing blood. A knife. And Lord Korran is lying on the floor. Then I would wake up just to go back to the same dream. The last one had awakened me to a fully bright day. “Goddess! Am I going crazy,” I said to myself. My head pounded. My throat felt sore. I touched where he had wrapped his hand and wrinkled at the discomfort.

I gratefully let it sweep me under, unsure if I’ll be able to walk out of here whole. I blink awake at the crack of dawn with my face to the ceiling, recounting the last events of my downturned life. From being snatched off the road by a raving animal, to being claimed by another. Mate. Just one word and it makes my blood boil with deep-seated rage. Reading about fantasies must have knocked me upside the head so bad. I must have been a fool to wish for a love like in those fantasy books? Twenty-four year old and I can’t distinguish lies woven into literature.
