The moment I saw him, relief flooded through me.
“Griffin.”
He didn’t answer. He just kept walking, his figure half-hidden in the shifting light. When he stepped close enough for me to see his face, my breath caught.
It was him, but it wasn’t.
His eyes were pitch black, swallowing the light. His skin looked almost gray, veins pulsing faintly beneath the surface as if something alive was crawling under it. And around his neck hung an amulet, identical to the one I’d seen on Lilith. Only this one… this one was cracked, bleeding a faint trail of light that pulsed like a heartbeat.
