June cried. The frozen feeling, in June’s legs vanished. The gray color of the trees turned into neon pink. The sky began to rain ink. "System error!" Aris yelled. His voice sounded like a radio. "The child is eating the computer code!" Aris’s body began to flicker. He wasn’t a man anymore. He was a collection of flickering lights. He reached for June. His face looked scared. "June! Stop her! If she eats the tablet the whole world will crash! We’ll all be erased!"

"We diffused it. We broke the signal into seven billion different songs." The Recognition Aris, the Mimic leader who had ascended the elevator with them, stepped forward. He looked at the group of "Unclaimed" Mimics waiting by the tents. He didn't give them a command. He simply sat down in the dirt and picked up a stone, turning it over in his hands as if seeing a mineral for the first time. "It is... heavy," Aris remarked, his voice now devoid of any digital tremor. "And cold. I like it."

It was a collective, million-legged scuttle echoing through the very core of my skull. "Don't fight it," Aris said, reaching for a magnifying glass, his hand trembling with excitement.
