“You know Aunt Mel and the things she was capable of. She isn’t going to let this go.” I smirked, though there was no humor in it. “She doesn’t scare me. She is nothing compared to me” Megan glanced at me briefly. “Maybe. But remember, a mama bear with no cubs left to protect is a force of pure destruction.” I didn’t respond. Instead, I turned my gaze out the window. The trees blurred into shadows as we drove. Deep down, I knew Megan was right. I shouldn't underestimate her grief. I should watch out for the things she was capable of now that she had money and power.

“Relax babes we are going there. Come on get in now. We will go to my place first. I don’t think you need to change. Just redo your hair.” Megan’s house was on another street from Babi’s. The town Winslow was beautiful small town with the population of less than ten thousand. So it’s like everybody knows everybody. Abby laughed, a bright sound that filled the bakery. “No, not me, only because you’ll murder me in my sleep. I like being alive, thank you very much. Besides, I’m tired of men. I’m on a man-Sabbatical.”

Caleb and I were the definition of a screwed-up relationship." Reaching for Abby's hands, Megan squeezed them. "Just a word of warning: be very sure you know what you're getting yourself into. If Caleb drives me nuts, then Mark is a whole 'nother level, from what I understand. That man has secrets. He's basically shut himself off from the world." Abby squeezed Megan's hands back. "He does. Here, stripped of the armor of high fashion, she looked smaller, more accessible. She looked like the woman I had first seen through the window of that small bakery in Seattle, the one with flour on her apron and a laugh that reached her eyes. “My lady! My lady!” Rosetta yelled as she burst through the drawing room to where Megan was seating with a book in her hands, the bold words Theories Of The Master Tactician written on the front. Startled, Megan glanced up, her hands resting as usual on her stomach, and her eyes sparkling with joy at the sight of the impromptu visitor.

I whispered. "Megan," Abigail began. "I like you, I really do, and I have done a lot to help your career, and not just because of your brother, but because you are a beautiful, talented young woman who is still yet to come into her own." She paused and shrugged; "And I have yet to really begin to help you Megan there is so much more that I can and will do for you." Once again Abigail's eyes locked with mine, this time however they appeared different as if there was something behind them, a glow of some sort. Trick of the light? Or more?

Megan stormed into the room, closing the door behind her with a sharp click. She stood there, fists clenched at her sides, her eyes fixed on Ashleigh with an accusatory glare. "What gave you the audacity to call Alexander and tell him what happened to me?" she demanded, her voice taut with anger, her hands planted on her hips. Ashleigh’s gaze swept over Megan from head to toe. There were no visible signs of abuse or distress. Instead, Megan looked healthier than ever—her skin glowed, and looked much better than when she used to stumble in to the room drunk and out of her mind.

She said, “Dr. Tanner is with a patient right now if you wanna wait.” I smiled, “Thanks, Megan.” I said and made my way towards the waiting, but then, “Hey,” I said, making my way back over to Megan, “do you have a lot of free time?” She cupped her hands, “If you are about to offer me a sneak peek at your book that you’ve been working on since we graduated high school, then I say,” she reached her hands out, “give it!” I laughed, pulled out one of the copies I had made, and handed it to her.

Megan stated as she crossed her hands glaring at Elizabeth, if looks could kill, she would have already been dead by now. Elizabeth let out a sadistic chuckle as she smiled at Megan, “Tell me about your experience Megan, was the first time in prison sweeter than the second?” “Seems like your sources didn't give you the full story Beth, I just have one question: Why are you so obsessed with me?” Megan threw back. “You call it obsession?” Elizabeth scoffed as she paused, “I don't care whatever you tag it as Megan, all I know is I am going to make you suffer endlessly to the point that you will wish you were dead”
