Maya’s POV The old man stood in front of us with cold eyes. His name was Richard Cross. He looked at the children like they were treasures. The little girl held my hand tight. The boy hid behind Sarah. I felt my stomach turn. These children had been through too much. I thought, I survived dark rooms and powerful hands. I ran from guns and lies. Now I stand here for them. I cannot let this man take them away. Richard smiled slowly. “The children carry strong blood. They belong with the family. Give them to me and I will give you money. A safe house. Everything you need.”

The data chip remained hidden, a precious treasure close to her skin. Finally, the night of the third moon arrived. The city, bathed in its cool, ethereal glow, seemed to hold its breath. Anya navigated the twisting streets of District 17, her heart pounding against her ribs. She reached Midnight Alley, a notorious den of thieves and scavengers.
