Their car spun and came to a stop, a crumpled pile of metal was all that was left of it. Cara was unable to look away from her best friend and herself still piled on top of each other in the passenger seat. This couldn't be real. This couldn't have happened! They had made it! They had made it, damn it! This wasn't what happened at all! She sat there staring at the carnage before her, jaw hanging wide open in disbelief. She shook her head slowly, this could not be. This wasn't what happened at all.

I want to scream, to throw everything back at him—for trapping me in this nightmare, for hunting me down like a fugitive instead of his wife. He grips my wrist and pulls me to my feet. “I’m not going back,” I say, voice trembling but firm. “The train is leaving soon,” Maximilian says, his tone clipped. “Don’t make me delay these people just to deal with you.” His stern glare only fuels my frustration. I hate how he traps me like this. But maybe—just maybe—I can turn the situation around. I glance at the passengers, their curious gazes bouncing between us. I can feel their attention, and it sparks a bold idea.

Jack sat in the front, Marcus at the controls (which consisted of a steering wheel from a 1990 Ford and a big red lever). "Train is moving," Gary's voice warned. "Departure confirmed. Speed increasing. 50 mph... 60..." "Wait for it," Jack said, watching the shadows of the main tunnel through a crack in the wall. A roar filled the air. The ground shook. The Ghost Train thundered past them, a blur of black steel and misery. "NOW!" Jack shouted. Marcus slammed the red lever forward. The V8 engine roared to life, spitting fire. The Beast lurched forward, tires screeching, sparks flying. They shot out of the service tunnel and merged onto the main track, right behind the Ghost Train.

Just then, the scouts up ahead said, "Sir, there's a five-kilometer section of track failure we can't repair." Mountain immediately commanded, "Hit the brakes. I want the train to stop within the next four kilometers. Aurelion, we need the cargo planes’ assistance." "Understood," Aurelion replied. "Cargo planes, deploy your steel cables. We're bringing the train up for five kilometers." "Cargo planes, copy.” "Steel cables ready." With deafening roars, the train came to a halt just beyond the five-kilometer section of damaged tracks. The railway ahead had suffered heavy damages, and the convoy needed to bypass the severed rails.

And now she sat in her fascination. "Wow, this is better than the giant one. It's just a little bit too tight " Dale remarked. "Giant one? Little bit too tight? What the hell those that even mean!" Jessy wondered. "Well the long beast, the railway station?" Dale spelled out her clue. "What the hell that's a train. You got that? And now please don't talk unless you're asked to." Jessy warned and checked her watch. "We are ten minutes late, buckle your seatbelts. It's show time!" She said these words with great focus and kick started the engine, pulling the gear stick.

Steven and Ella arrived just in time to witness the scene and nearly had a heart attack out of anger, but they had to keep their composure. “Apologies, Old Mr. Sullivan. Sorry to disturb your birthday celebration. I’ll deal with this disgrace of a son when we get home.” Aaron wouldn’t budge. He dropped to his knees and reached for Wilson’s legs. He refused to leave with Steven and Ella. “Please, Old Mr. Saddler! Sabrina and I grew up together. We're perfect for each other. We even made a promise to marry each other! Please let me marry her!” Timothy’s expression soured.

I can't warn them, but what I can do is try to make things right. The train journey is busy but uneventful. It's easier t see now thanks to the extra lighting that they installed to help keep people safe during the crisis. The train moves so fast, everything blurs into one. Even though I'm alone, I feel safe. I don't think the passengers are a threat to me. If things are as bad as Magnus said, I doubt these people would leave their families just for a paycheck.

Now it was getting even worse. "Me? Angry? I'm not angry." "See? That's exactly what angry people say." I slowly let out a breath, forcing myself to calm down. Even after all these years apart, Cyran could still read me too easily. Or maybe I was simply too expressive. Without another word, he pulled out his trump card. I tried not to look interested. Leona was having a throbbing headache, any sound felt like noise. "You ought to take the subway, I could drop you at the—" "She is pregnant!" Debby said abruptly. The man seemed a bit hesitant. "The subway closes at exactly 8pm." "I said she is pregnant!" Debby repeated, he did not seem amused. For a moment Debby realized that maybe just maybe this was not a romcom and that line did not work in real life. Leona sighed. "We will pay double." "Uh—alright." He replied.

The first thing that caught his eye was a pinned post titled "Farewell Letter". The video showed an announcement for a flight about to take off. The caption beneath it made Eric freeze. "Eric, if loving someone is this hard, then from today on, we will never see each other again," I had written. The belief that he could win me back as long as he lowered his pride was shattered instantly. Panic, fear, and helplessness surged through him all at once.
