She smiled, replying, “That’s good.”
She maintained the smile on her face as she began tightening the laces. In the mirror before us, her expression remained pleasant. Then,leaning closer, she whispered, “Do you know what a lion’s den is? Because you’re about to enter one. It may seem beautiful outside, and I urge you as a daughter. It’s not too late to quit now, or you’ll pay with your tears and blood.”
A chill ran down my spine. I stood there, stunned and scared. And suddenly, Ms. Williams stepped back, her demeanor completely changed. “Wow, you look so beautiful, my daughter,” she exclaimed, beaming.
