My image finally started blurring, but it’s not my family that’s reflecting back at me this time. It’s Creed, bloody and bruised. He screamed as the chains that held him rattled. The mirrors surrounding him played images of burning buildings and people running. I can hear their screams, their innocent. Just as fast as they came, the images vanished. They were replaced by a battle, but I don’t recognize anyone. The image of a black wolf is positioned above the battle in the mirror. An image of a vampire was on the mirror next to it. I can hear screams of pain and heartbreak as I watch the victims from both sides fall.

He smelled them before he came upon them. Clustered, marbled scents packed together. He could parse some scents from the herd but not all. Hunter used his remaining ki to give the mirage substance and texture as he had before and sent it forth like a bird on wing. Only this bird’s wings grew and swelled, and with each flap the light in the corridors retreated. Even Hunter was blinded by this casting, but he smelt their perspiration, heard rustling cloth, felt hot breath.

He hit a memory. He found himself standing in a forest that no longer existed - the primeval woods of the Old World, where the first "Wyrd-Blood" was spilled. This was the Ancestral Mirage, a sophisticated psychological weapon designed by the Veil to exploit the genetic trauma of the werewolf lineage. The Symphony Conduit was using Xander’s own DNA as a map, dragging him into the dark highlights of his ancient heritage.

He said, taking the water from her. "Anna." Xandros pushed the door open, and Mireille immediately stood up. "Thank Goodness you are here. Xandros, can you feel her wolf?" Mireille asked. At the spell of blood, hidden things were meant to show. "What?" Xandros looked at her. "Her wolf?" "Yes." Mireille asked. Everyone looked at Xandros. "I feel something, but it doesn't quite feels like a wolf." "That's because she's an hybrid." Mireille whispered underneath her breath.

It became Mira's duty to kill these hellhounds before they could cause more damages. Mira charged to the first one, grabbing its fleshy head, and smashed it against the wall. The other hellhounds started to run towards her. Mira continued to charge to the hellhound one by one. Her clean clothes were tainted with the hellhounds' blood. Her claws were dripping with blood. Mira growled as her claws were slashing her targets as fast and hard as she could. The hellhound kicked her, sending her towards the wall. Wiping the blood from her mouth, Mira chuckled as she stood up. Her skills were a bit blunt after she didn't go hunting since her pregnancy. But it didn't matter. She could always sharpen

The smell of blood lessens the further I travel from camp, mingling with a new scent–something even more metallic–magic. The hunters weren’t lying about seeing a hellhound. Because there was a hellhound. Only, it’s dead now. I shift back into my usual form and adjust my dress in a rush, my mind spinning over the figure lying still in front of me. Warmth radiates from its mutated form. This hellhound is more wolf-like than the others I’ve seen. Almost a cross between a rogue and a regular shifter; its body is lean and strong, but its facial features are all wrong. Its eyes are huge and extremely far apart. Its mouth is wide open, three rows of razor sharp teeth glinting in the moonlight.

Everything a sanguis had is bloody red eyes, fur, and two long tails slowly swaying, following the air. I thought that I may have seen a sanguis before, in the middle of the forest when I was a kid when my father knocked on an unfamiliar door and - “She’s shifting back!” Alarick hurriedly approached the prisoner and covered her with the suit he was wearing. I looked at Alarick, who was now lifting the unconscious prisoner. I nodded when I got what he was thinking. “We cannot let her stay here.”

“They knew we’d be here...” I bared my teeth and cursed. Kal looked back to the Bloodhounds, the two dozen Mimics disappearing down their throat one by one until only the stain of blood was left in the snow. Even their guts and torn limbs were relished by these mysterious dark beasts.

Silence swallowed them both. Scarlet stood frozen, her hand still raised, fingers trembling violently. She stared at her palm like it belonged to someone else. “Oh my God,” she whispered. “I didn’t...” Mira slowly turned back. A red mark bloomed on her cheek. Her lips parted as a low growl vibrated from her chest. For a split second, her eyes flashed...gold bleeding through brown, her wolf clawing at the surface. Scarlet’s heart slammed. Mira’s nails dug into her palms. Her chest rose and fell sharply as if something invisible was holding her back.

“Jasmine’s evidence. Bloodhound’s running liquid silver — and it’s been bigger than we thought.” I stuffed the drive in my laptop, my jaw taut. “What’s on it?” I said, more sharply than I intended. Caspian was my brother in everything but blood, but his timing sucked, my wolf was still unsettled at the safe house.
