“Now I can scrutinize myself freely” Mane remarked as he stood within the walls of the relatively large bathroom. There was a bucket of water right next to him, and a large rectangular crystal called a Reflection Crystal bound to the wall that served a similar function to a mirror. Although the image that appeared in the crystal wasn’t as clear as a mirror image, it was pretty good and would serve the purpose for which Mane wanted it to.

The wolves exchanged uneasy glances, then followed. At the far end, the great mirror—the one that had hung above the council dais for generations—had cracked down the center. Its surface shimmered faintly, catching reflections that didn’t belong. In it, Kaelen’s image wavered and multiplied, shifting in and out of focus. He reached out, fingertips brushing the cold glass. CHAPTER 179 — THE REFLECTION OF TRUTH MAYA POV Liam’s hand caught my arm before I could touch the mirror. “Don’t,” he said. But my eyes wouldn’t move away from it. The reflection didn’t blink. It just stared back at me with that calm, cold look—the same one Brandy wore when she lied. Behind us, the air hummed. The other mirrors were starting to shimmer too. Each one showed a different me. One smiling. One crying. One bleeding. One standing over Liam’s body.

A faint chuckle escaped him, but it quickly turned to a wince. Mira’s panic surged. “Okay, no. I’m not watching you die from magical proximity issues.” She stood abruptly. “There has to be another way.” The air around her shimmered again—the same pale light as before—and she realized: the mirror shards. They were glowing, vibrating. Each shard reflected her—but not just her. Seraphina too. Mira’s breath quickened. “If the curse connects through reflection…” She grabbed one of the shards. “Then maybe it can reflect me back.”

I ask again, louder this time. No answer. My throat tightens. The mirrors look normal from where I stand. Nothing more than light, shadow, and endless reflection. But the air buzzes, thick with grief. I take a slow step forward, drawn to the last mirror despite myself. The mirror before me ripples. My reflection blurs. For a moment, it looks like someone else entirely, a figure with silver eyes and a cruel smile. Then the surface clears, and the image changes. Riven.

It looked like light was not reflecting correctly here. My finger reached out and touched the surface of the mirror. My finger squeaked slightly as it connected with the surface. I looked over my shoulder and picked a different mirror, one that had shown my front instead of an angle on my back. Remi came up behind me as I stared at it. Both he and I reflected in the mirror. I looked back over my shoulder. A few of the mirrors were also not showing the correct image. I slid my finger down the front but this time my finger sunk through the surface like it was water. I pulled it back quickly. The liquid surface solidified again reflecting my dark form. "Did you see that?" I whispered.

In its center, resting on a cradle of obsidian root, was an object none of them expected to see. A mirror. But not reflective. It was matte. Shadowed. It absorbed light instead of returning it. Jessica approached it, breath hitching. “It’s the Uncoded Mirror.” Torin crossed his arms. “The one Helix tried to replicate. And failed.” Eleni moved beside them. “Because it doesn’t show what we are. It shows what we refuse to become.” Lena stood before it. And the room fell still again. “I thought we came to remember,” she said.

He sighed. *sigh* And raised a hand to massage his temples. "A class 4 dark artifact…" He mumbled, and Director Bones asked about it. "What is it?" "The Mirror of Erised. Is an artifact that shows in its reflection the deepest desire that the person looking at has. Until here there would be no problems, but the mirror entrances the user and viewer to continue looking at its reflection and do nothing more. This mirror killed a lot of people by starvation simply by showing them their deepest desire being realised."
