The Mirror Cracks Deep in the High Temple vault, Vegas and Arion stand before a mirror of polished obsidian. Reflected within is not their image, but Xavier, flame surging behind him. Vegas (alarmed): "He found it." Arion (grinning): "Then it's time to move the final piece." He places a hand on the mirror. Xavier's image moves—turns toward them—as if he sees.

I didn’t hesitate. The chamber below was suffocating—lit only by veins of glowing quartz embedded in the walls. At the center stood the mirror. It was not constructed as a normal glass. It was ten feet high and its very edges were of obsidian teeth, and glimmered it did with a silver so deep it seemed to fall. The Mirror of Mercy.
