I questioned, folding a shirt with more care than necessary. Richard, the ever-stoic beta, offered a reassuring smile. "You did what you thought was right, Ms.Anderson." I sighed, glancing around the room. "I just hope he comes back in one piece." Richard chuckled. The days that followed were marked by a strange mix of routine and uncertainty. The territory to the north isn’t exactly a great place for communication. Signal were weak to none, and most of what I could receive from him would come from a letter. Sometimes there were messages sent on phones that read the 7th of March while it’s the 11th of march that I received it.

AMBER'S POV Communication is one area where Esther and I were previously unfocused. In the first five years of our relationship, I could see that we weren't having good discussions or simply checking in with each other after work. That lack of appropriate communication and interaction was a huge error and one of the reasons we lost everything... but this time, I won't allow it to happen again... I can't simply let her go like I used to... I'm responsible for everything that's happened.

At least, she didn’t need to worry about Barbara catching sight of her from one of her numerous screens. “I came to drop a message”, Emily stuttered while hoping that she won’t be discovered. The walkie-talkie which was supposed to be used for communication purposes had been disconnected by Mike too and this time, there was no means to reach out and confirm. “From whom?” The man asked, clearly not believing any word she uttered.

The duchess rambled on and on about how her only martins left her. Alice made her face into a scowl; if her father left them then it has nothing to do with them. He must have his reasons for that so there is no way she would stay and someone will blame her for that. “But we have spoken about this countless time, him leaving has nothing to do with me. And I am mature enough to know what is good for me granny.” Alice regretted when she let the word granny out of her mouth.

BEN: If you won’t pick up, will you at least come see me so I can talk to you in person? The next thing I know, the text bounces, a red exclamation point appearing. Message Not Delivered. She’s turned off her phone.

The smell of coffee and men’s musk suffocated the atmosphere, whilst the sound of male ego filled the expanse. Archer was struggling with the lack of communication with Cara. The week had dragged while signal limited his access to speak to her. He had left her a message but he was unable to see if she had tried to get back in contact. It was one of the drawbacks of the job, and it frustrated him that it caused so much silence and distance between them.

It was dated back to six months ago, when Bisi and I didn't even see eye to eye. More messages poured in after then; goodwill messages, congratulatory messages, flirty messages and angry messages, but Mike hadn't bothered with replying them all until a few months ago with four words, one of them misspelt; I need your helpf.

Read this when you see it. I sent it. I watched the screen. One tick. The message had sent from my end. The second tick did not appear. Not delivered. I stopped walking briefly and looked at the screen. The single grey tick sat there, static, the universal signal of a message that had left one phone and not reached another. Her phone was off, or out of battery, or in a bag on silent in a lecture hall, or she had simply not looked at it. She had not seen it.

She placed her coffee carefully on the table and turned on her laptop. "It appears there was a delivery failure." She said calmly. "A what?" "Incorrect domain suffix. It delayed the message." She said pointing at the message. A loud sigh sounded close to her, unmistakeably the junior staff.The kind of exhale that meant thank God and I'm not fired and please let this be over all at once. "So no one received it?" the senior staff asked. "Not in time," Isla said. "And the meeting?" "Thursday is still viable." Isla was already typing. "I can have a resend prepared in the next ten minutes and follow up directly with the relevant parties to confirm receipt. It won't be ideal but it's recoverable."
