I think. I am drawn to a door set into the wall, in an out of the way area. I reach forwards and open the door but before I can gently close it behind me, a great gust of wind whips it out of my hand and it slams against the wall. As I look around the small room the sound of breaking dishes fills the air and my eyes are drawn to the young woman crouching down to pick it up. As I move closer the amulet grows warm in my hand, as if letting me know I had found who I was seeking.

I glanced at him, “I love them,” I said, running my fingers along the spines of the books. “They’re like an escape—a way to step into another world, even if it’s just for a little while.” He nodded, his gaze lingering on me for a moment too long. “I get that,” he said, his voice barely audible. I stopped in front of a section labeled Legends and Lore. The titles immediately caught my eye: The Myths of Moonsdale, The Wolves of the Moonlight, The Moon’s Chosen.

I needed to understand what was happening to me. I dressed quickly then slipped out of my room. The academy was silent. Everyone else was still sleeping. I made my way to the greenhouse. When I pushed open the door, I immediately noticed something different. There was a book under the stone bench where Rhea and I usually sat. She did this occasionally. She left things for me to find without explanation or note. It could be herbs sometimes, or small crystals she said would help me sleep. But this time it was a book. I picked it up to look at. The cover was dark green leather. The title was stamped in faded gold letters: Bloodline Magic and the Lunar Covenant: A Practitioner's Study.

He asks and I chuckle. "This book is about a war between dragons and shit. It's not like a cook book or a knitting class." I say, chewing on some ice as I type up the description online. "Stop chewing on ice, you're gonna ruin your teeth." Jack barks through the phone, but I ignore him. "Yes or no? I'm sure Mrs. B would just give us the books. You're the one who was bitching that we need to try new things." I say and he groans a little, obviously annoyed by me.

I told her, feeling a bit panicky suddenly. “You’d have to find a witch who specializes in this kind of thing. I have never heard of one before, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. It’s a large world and one might stumble into your lap at the right moment. In the meantime, it’s best you protect yourself. Oh, and stay away from Mistletoe.” I raised my brows. “Mistletoe?” I asked, confused. “It’s used as a sweetener in a lot of drinks. It’ll have the same effect on your body as the full moon does. You’ll transform in front of everybody and it won’t be pretty. It’s better if nobody knew about what you are.”

They moved deeper into the library until Pat stopped at a lone pedestal in the center of the room. Upon it sat a thick, dusty tome bound in what looked like pale, cracked leather. The cover bore no title, only a symbol: a blazing fire crowned by three horns, with jagged lines splitting its base. Pat opened the book carefully. “Mad Kings of the Underworld,” Jo read. She leaned in, studying the strange, curling script etched in faded ink. She flipped through the brittle pages until something finally caught her eye. A name. Malrik. Jo’s heart skipped.

they said. “Anything anyone needs before we go to the library for research?” Thea said. “I brought some books from my pack library,” Misty said. “Let me go grab them.” A few minutes later, the group was in the pack library. Misty showed Thea the books she had brought. “These are the books that mentioned goddess gifts,” Misty said. She put them next to the books Thea’s father had brought back. “You want to read with us?” Thea said.
