LUNA Madison
The monster that was Averie lunged then, a desperate, sobbing motion.
"Get back!" Ethan shouted, but Madison didn't move.
She caught the monster by the throat. She didn't use the light. She used her bare hands. She looked into those blue eyes one last time, seeing the greed and the rot that had defined her entire childhood.
"You were never my mother," Madison hissed.
She squeezed. The bone-white neck snapped like a dry twig. She dropped the body into the pit, watching it disappear into the blackness.
The hall went silent. The light of the Binary Star faded, leaving only the stinging smoke and the smell of burnt flesh. Madison stood over the hole, her eyes turning a permanent, lethal silver.
