It smelled like death and rotting meat. I thought maybe it was just curious, you know, so I stood still and waited. Well, I eventually realized it wanted to kill me and I ran.”

Prologue Daniel's POV I went on with my life, not expecting even a tiny bit of happiness to find me, I was just living under the dark side of life. Killing, hunting monsters. No happiness, not even love. Nothing could reach my frozen soul. That is, if I had a soul.

I scratched at its face, feeling my nails digging into its skin. The monster released me. I scuttled off the bed, finding a corner of the room to hide. I heard Hunter calling me. No, this was a trick, the monster killed him. I wailed, sobs racking my body. Then his hands were on my shoulders, pulling me into him. I recognized his smell.

This bastard is going to die. I feel an ice cold surge of energy race through me and charge at the swamp monster. I am moving so fast all I see is bright blue light around me. I run fist first into its torso and straight through him. I turn around to find Trent who is lying on the ground. I reach for his hand and the look in his eyes is something I have neer seen before, at least not directed at me. It’s like he’s seeing me for the first time. A small smile and wide eyes lights his face up. He grabs my outstretched hand but doesn’t look away from my eyes. As soon as we make contact the cold energy I felt before intensifies and he begins to glow that bright blue color I noticed before.

Luna I’m stuck in the world between the worlds. I run. I run through bloody marshes teeming with monsters who chase me in endless loops. I race through crimson swamps lined with alligators waiting to consume me if I dare approach the shore. There are infinite dangers, unending treachery waiting for me, and there’s no escape, ever.
