I rode flawlessly through the final stretch, crossing the finish line while his engine was still echoing in the trees. “Impossible!” Lily shrieked as I pulled my helmet off, my hair damp with sweat. “Lowell doesn't lose on the Spine! You cheated!” Tracy was screaming with joy, sprinting over to me before I’d even kicked the stand down. “You did it! Never before had anyone seen Grandmaster Conrad so serious or anxious. The same grave disappointment echoed on Lucielle and Brutus' faces. In contrast, however, the twenty-eight students reacted differently to the announcement. Some were relieved that the Expedition was canceled—either due to the fear of going there, or the prospect of spending the day exploring the town. Other students, mostly boys with a few girls like Trisha among them, appeared disappointed upon hearing the news. They had likely been looking forward to fighting real Monsters, so it was a major bummer to hear that the expedition had been canceled.

They were not humans. No, far from that. They were monsters. “Now, that’s a mess.” Professor Ben sneered, looking disgusted. But not at what Jamie did, no. It was at the mess and the mess alone. “Class for today is over. Until whatever that is, is cleaned off.”

I frowned as I got in. “ Now do note that this is a field trip and hence we are in the wild, though of course the place you are passing through is perfectly safe and secured. So please do stick with your teammates and classmates, no diversion and detours, okay?!” Nobody seemed to be listening to the teacher who was screaming precautions over her voice. “ That's good then, I don't have to worry that you'll puke,” he joked. “ Haha, very funny,” I folded my arms.
