**** Pov: Lupa. The forest is heavy with mist, the full moon cutting through the haze like a blade. I kneel on the damp earth, my knees sinking into moss, hands pressed to the ground as I whisper prayers to the Moon Goddess. It’s been years since I’ve felt her call this strong, a pull in my bones that drags me from my bed in the Nightshade compound. My silver hair hangs loose, catching the moonlight, and my breath steadies as I offer my heart to her guidance. Ember, our Luna, is fierce but young, and with Rowan and Caelen in her care, I need wisdom to steer her right.

I want that future. I look lovingly at Layla but she has turned her attention to the sky. Her brow is scrunched and eyes are squinting as she looks at something with confusion. I look up to see what she is looking at and I witness the most spectacular meteor shower. "It looks like the moon is crying," She says both in awe and sorrow. "Why do you say that?" I ask trying to see what she sees. "Come here and look," She pats the ground beside herself without taking her eyes off the night sky. I do as she asks and when I look up I see what she is seeing and my stomach falls to my feet.

The men nodded and got to work while the others shifted into wolves and darted back into the woods to find their comrades who had been wounded by the beast. He walked across the board bridge he had made over the stream to get to his own side. Although he would have easily sprinted through the stream if he was in his wolf form but he didn't really fancy getting wet when he was in his human form.
