**** Pov: Lupa. The forest is heavy with mist, the full moon cutting through the haze like a blade. I kneel on the damp earth, my knees sinking into moss, hands pressed to the ground as I whisper prayers to the Moon Goddess. It’s been years since I’ve felt her call this strong, a pull in my bones that drags me from my bed in the Nightshade compound. My silver hair hangs loose, catching the moonlight, and my breath steadies as I offer my heart to her guidance. Ember, our Luna, is fierce but young, and with Rowan and Caelen in her care, I need wisdom to steer her right.

“Fine. But I’m watching you.” Sophia’s lips tugged into a smile that did not reach her eyes. “Of course, Serena.” The pack set out under the blood moon’s uncanny glow, the forest still but for the crinkle of leaves beneath our boots. Derrick stuck to my side, until our hands collided and stayed, a wordless promise of protection. I directed my attention on the lunar drag, awareness of it pulling at the blood of us both, directing us toward the ruins. The heartbeat of my baby pounded in time with my own heartbeat, only now it was stronger, as if they knew I was fighting for them. It just gave me hope, a little glint of light in the darkness.

You see the pair franticly trying to console their child. If I don't get out of here now, it would be me next. Slowly, I took some steps backward, looking around for an outlet or a place I could hide. It was past midnight and the moon's light was the only source of illumination. Thorns and woods are what filled my pathway and I didn't know where to turn to. With my mother's last words still reeling in my head, I cleared a path along the woods with my hand as I ran. Ignoring the thorns and rough tree barks, that pickled me, I ran like my life depended on it.

The day smelled of roses and rain. Morning light spilled through the arched windows of the Moonspire Cathedral, catching on the silver banners that draped from the high ceilings. The banners bore two crests side by side — the wolf sigil of Kael’s house and the moonlit rose of the vampire court.

Just to make sure we’re all safe and sound. Mom: (reassuringly) Alright, I’ll pack my gear and head your way. Charlie: (smiling) Thanks, Mom. I knew I could count on you. Mom: (softly) Always. Just remember, the moon is full, and we’re stronger together. Charlie: Don't tell Dad… Yet Mom: Wouldn't dream of it kiddo. Love you. Charlie: Love you too “What did she mean when she said the moon is full and we’re stronger together?” Maya asked.
