The way my chest had tightened when I woke.
When I finished, silence settled between us, thick but not uncomfortable.
Then the seer laughed.
Not cruelly. Not mockingly but warmly.
“Oh, child,” she said, shaking her head. “You worry too much.”
My shoulders sagged with relief before she even finished speaking. “So… it’s not bad?”
“Not at all,” she replied. “It is not a curse. It is not a warning of loss.”
She leaned forward, eyes glowing faintly.
“It is the birth of blessings,” she said. “But blessings rarely come without a price. Evil must often die so that good may live freely.”
