Mages are typically distinguished from other magical beings, such as witches or sorcerers, by their extensive knowledge and mastery of magic. The origins of mages can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where they were revered as powerful figures with the ability to commune with the gods and wield their divine powers. In these early societies, mages were often seen as the intermediaries between the mortal world and the realm of the supernatural. They were believed to possess the wisdom and insight necessary to interpret omens, perform rituals, and cast spells for the benefit of their communities.

They were what I would call a mix between a vampire and a witch. A mage could harness the power of the sun. They would take in the power that they could use to perform their weird spells in a way. Each mage had their own type of power that they used, but all could heal themselves by only taking in sunlight. How they were like vamps was they would absorb a person's life essence. It made newborns highly dangerous as they were not able to control their powers. Any little emotion and they would wipe out an entire army.
