He just stands there, at the other side of the desk, giving me wide-eyed stares.
“Did you not hear me? I said cut my arm open.”
“Wait, what?” He shakes his head. “I thought I had misheard you.”
“No, you didn’t.” I pant as my legs start to cramp up. “Please help me, Lake.”
He blinks at me for a few seconds. Then, he looks to the chemists standing behind me. “Let’s reschedule this for another time. You can take your leave.”
The chemists waste no time in leaving. The door shuts behind them, and I have no doubt that they’re going to distribute this news as gossip too. However, I do not care what gossip is going around the Grand Alkhemi. All I care is getting Rome’s blood bond destroyed.
