“That’s cute. You think rules matter here.” Well, damn. “Second rule,” he continued. “Don’t borrow, don’t lend, and don’t make friends with anyone whose name you can’t pronounce.” I raised a brow. “What about you?” He smirked. “I’m your roommate. You’re stuck with me.” Fair enough. We ate in silence. It wasn’t much. Bread that could break teeth and water that tasted like rust. But my stomach didn’t complain. At night, as I lay on the slab, I couldn’t sleep. My brain replayed the fight, the class, the whispers I’d caught, the movement I’d watched.

“Look around. My room is different from every dorm room here and that is because this is literally my room back home.” I frowned. “Your room back home.” “Yes.” “In this academy.” “Yes.” “That is impossible.” She shrugged. “Fairy Magic.” I turned slowly, actually taking in the space for the first time since crashing onto the floor like a defeated sack of trauma. And… yeah. She was right. This was not a dorm room.

“Yeah.” He waits. He wants me to choose to tell him. So I do. “You probably got his contact info off I*******m,” I accuse and he chuckles. “I did, fortunately enough he responds to dms of guys who look exactly like you and could probably be your brother.” I sigh and continue “He’s my roommate,” I say, voice quieter. “And my friend and something more. Something I still don’t know how to name because it feels like it’s more than me.”

“You never hum. Who is this guy and when do I get to meet him?” I shrugged innocently, biting into my sandwich. “There is no guy. I’m just happy. New apartment. New energy. That’s it.” Anita rolled her eyes. “Sure. And I’m the Queen of England.” I laughed and changed the subject quickly, but inside I was dying. How was I supposed to explain that my roommate — her cousin had been sneaking into my room at night, and last night I basically invited him to keep doing it?

I said flatly, keeping my eyes on the documents. “A space away from disturbances…hmm,” he didn't seem to believe me. “You've never been the type to tolerate people, so why would you even have a roommate? And why are you keeping them away from me?” “My choice to have a roommate is solely my business. Also, you have a loud mouth,” I answered. I don't even know why I bothered with him honestly. “I'm just saying, because the Lorcan I know doesn't share kitchen appliances unless there's a very good reason. Is the roommate at least easy on the eyes?" He bounced his brows like the idiot he was.

"I’ll take you home if you don’t want to stay here another minute. I promise. Just come out, please." *Take me home?* I should use this opportunity so I would feel less guilty. I pushed the door open immediately,gaze down. "Are you strong enough to ride?" I asked. He was a bit surprised, that worked on me. "My roommate will take you." He replied dryly and turned away. "The female roommate?" I asked, surprised. He nodded. "Coco, you can come in now," he called, turning toward the door. My eyes followed. A huge woman in a pink skirt and low-cut crop top, wearing heavy makeup, walked in.

"Who's this?" The little red head dipped under his chin, and reached up to smack his arm with vengeance. It was cute, that she thought she was scary, and he simply waited for her to introduce him. Curious what she would say. "This is Jackson, he's our new roommate, Randy invited him." She said it simply, and Jackson felt oddly disappointed. Well, that was lame. He always liked a little spice. Leaning his elbows down over her chair, with arms cradled innocently on either side of her silky strands, he cooed. "Don't let the princess fool you, I'm also her very, very, best friend. Why, we're almost inseparable now."

The room. “I’ve been looking for a place.” I sat up straighter. Interest immediately replacing confusion. “You need housing?” “Desperately.” He dropped into the seat behind us. “My current roommate is trying to grow mushrooms in the closet.” I blinked. “What?” “That’s exactly what I said.” I laughed. Against my better judgment. “Please tell me you’re joking.” “I wish.” His expression was completely serious. “I woke up three weeks ago and thought we had mold.” “Oh no.”

How can I stay here and get to know him and possibly fall in love when I shouldn't be here? I'm unsure how to return to my world, but one thing is sure: this isn't my home. No matter what, I can't leave my granny, mom, siblings, and friends thinking I've been abducted. "Listen, you seem sweet, but… I don't belong here. I have to find a way to get back to where I came from." Thail furrows his eyebrows. "I don't understand…" "Remember when you found me?" He nods. "I came from another world. This isn't my world."

"What conversation? And what do you mean by ‘you'll be gone’? Are you sick or something?" My voice trembles slightly as I struggle to articulate the truth I’ve hidden for so long. "I'm not sure if you'll trust me, but I’ll tell you anyway.” Hugh releases his grip from my hand, sighing rigidly while briefly turning his gaze towards the wall. Even so, I press on, “I'm not from this world. I'm from another world, transported here by... by… I don't know what. My journey here will end soon, I just don't know when it'll end. But once it ends, I'll be back in my world and will never come back here."
