Suddenly, I recalled hearing some news some time ago about the death of Asher's mate. After about five seconds, I snapped out of the thoughts that had gotten me busy: "Who's Alpha Asher's mate?" I asked, "The last time I remember, they said Alpha Asher's mate died one time like that," I said, my tone ringing with curiosity as I tried to wrap my head around the exact year I heard it.

I responded calmly, finishing my plate. “You don’t look or sound terrified.” she arched an eyebrow. “You’re my mate. I don’t think you’ll hurt me. Takes a real psychopath to hurt their mate. And nothing about you has indicated you to be that type of person.” I shrugged. “It's not unheard of. For mates to mistreat the other.” she whispered so softly I almost didn’t hear her.

This strange man intrigued me. He stared at me, one eyebrow raised in what might have been confusion or curiosity. He scanned me from head to toe, eyes scrunched up in confusion. His head tilted to the side as he studied me. Then his expression morphed into surprise. I didn’t know what he was thinking, but it didn’t seem like he liked what he saw. “Mate.” At that singular word, my mouth dropped open, not in surprise but in realization. This was the reason I felt a bond with him at first sight. The moon goddess heard my pleas from yesterday and sent my mate! Finally!
