Part One: Taken by Surprise How was it possible my life can suck this much? Jessie Coford stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror and asked herself that question for perhaps the hundredth time. Had she pissed off the gods of fate? Was Mercury in retrograde? Had she fallen into an alternate universe? All in all, as far as she was concerned, life was a bitch. Today was just the culmination of a runaway train of bad luck.

He asked. “Oh! Not that kind of surprise bad boy! And of course, I will spam you those pictures next time and yes! that is also surprise because I won't inform you that I am about to surprise you. Don't you know what a surprise is? A sudden boom!” I expantiated jokingly. “Alright. What other surprise do you have for me?” He asked further. “Zane darling, it is called a surprise for a reason. Lucky you, I have given you a head up, so anticipate for the unexpected” I laughed but he hummed suspiciously “Hmmn”

She was surprised! 'It's her!'

Ashna said grinning. (We have planned a surprise for you.) I watched her skeptically. "Surprise? Mere liye? Kya kand kiye tum log ne?" I said a bit scared. (Surprise? For me? What mess did you create this time?) They all giggled scaring me even more. ∆∆∆∆ "KYA!!!" (WHAT!!!) I almost screamed when I found out there surprise and HE was standing right in front of me in the white beach.

I was reprimanding myself for not becoming him as it will be wasting money. “We have a surprise for you.” That was unexpected and wooow…..

I froze, staring at the screen in surprise. Her follow-up message caught me completely off guard.

VIOLET A Widely known fact about me: I don’t like surprises. I’m jumpy. I make unholy noises. My face gets beet red, and my body gets hot and tingly, and sometimes I feel like I’ve run out of air. Unfortunately, that combination is the perfect reaction for people who do like surprises. Which is why I’ve spent my life being surprised. Birthday parties, jump-scares, visitors I wasn’t expecting… People love to see the dramatic reaction, and I seem unable to help but give it to them.

His straightforward answer caught me off guard, leaving me momentarily speechless. Oh my gosh!

“What are you doing?” “I have a surprise for you” She raised a brow. “Surprise?” “Close your eyes” Her lips formed into a thin line before she laughed, her eyes fluttering close while she muttered. “I am curious about what the surprise is” I smiled. “I will be moving away from you right now. But know that I have my eyes on you and you can’t open your eyes until I get back!” I took a step back, then another, staring at her in admiration as she stood there, her eyes closed with a mix of an expression of anticipation and unease etched on her face. Every little thing that she did amazed me.

I can’t wait to shower and have a good night’s sleep, my whole body was exhausted. I stepped inside, I was relieved to see my mom wasn’t there. But someone else was. Their back was to me, and I was still far enough away that I couldn’t make out who it was. “Surprise!” The person spun around, a huge smile on her face. “Claire?” My voice caught in my throat. If there was a word stronger than ‘shocked,’ that’s what I was feeling right now. “You didn’t tell me you were coming,” I hurried to her, my heart lifting with excitement.
