I sat beside her, and she immediately stretched her legs back out, her feet landing in my lap. "What are you reading?" She held up the book without looking away from the page. "A mystery novel. A detective in Victorian London." I caught sight of the cover. A woman in a low-cut dress leaned against a man in a top hat, their faces inches apart in the fog. The Scarlet Letter Murders. I grabbed the book from her hands. "Hey!" She sat up, reaching for it. I flipped through a few pages. My eyes landed on a passage. His mouth found the hollow of her throat as his fingers worked the laces of her corset…

Breaking away from the kiss for air, she sighed and smiled down at him. “You know, for someone who is so shy when it comes to intimacy and topic of sex, you really do know how to use your hands..and tongue." She giggled. “Well." He smiled, squeezing her butt harder, making her gasp. “ Remember that novel I saw in your house?” “Which one?” She moaned. “I have lots of them” “ The one titled ‘Last Night.' " He winked at her. “The erotic one.” “Oh.” She replied as her eyes went wide in realization.

Bob said, chuckling. “Oh I don’t think that’s worse than investigating multiple murders, in which the only clue is the loans that they all the victims owe a certain bank”. “Yeah speaking of which, Danny I’m calling to tell you that you would have to open another case file, a fifth one” Bob said. Danny winced at the thought of having yet another victim of the mysterious killer. “Who’s the latest victim?” he asked “Owen Mclean an English businessman who deals mainly in real estate, I’d have my secretary send an email of the victim’s details to you, for profiling” Bob said.

Maybe I can read something to pass the time and occupy my mind for a bit. 0 I read through their titles and they definitely have a favorite genre. ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, ‘The Woman in White’, ‘The Maltese Falcon’. I sense a mystery theme here and I wonder if it’s Stefan or his wife that’s the fan. The note was crafted with meticulous care—letters cut out from newspapers and books, pieced together like a ransom demand, leaving no trace of handwriting. I didn't hesitate. Of course, I called the police. Only a fool would go alone. The officers arrived quickly and collected the note. As I expected, the messenger had left nothing behind—no fingerprints, no surveillance footage, nothing to trace. Greenfield Residences, the place mentioned, was a deserted settlement. Once slated for demolition, its residents had long since taken compensation and moved away. Yet for some unknown reason, the demolition had stalled, and the settlement remained in eerie abandonment.

Nicoli questioned. “I would like to think so. So far she has cooked multiple meals and so far has kept the house clean.” I replied as I stood from my seat and walked towards the mini-bar I had in the living room. I offered Nicoli a drink and he gladly accepted it. We had just left my father’s house. He was being investigated by the police once again and we had met up with his lawyers. So far the police were simply fishing and had no concrete evidence that tied my father to any crime but his lawyers advised us to lay low.

"You like that, don't you? Ah, but I knew you would " His mouth slid down her throat. Heat splintered all through her, even as her mind baulked. No, she thought hazily. He had touched her there. But surely he would not…. She could only watch in mingled shock and fascination as his dark head hovered over her breast. Never had she dreamed he might kiss her there? As if in anticipation, her nipples peaked and hardened, as his mouth touched the quivering tip, she gasped. "Dan, what…. What do you do?"

I replied, shaking his hand briefly before pulling it back, a tingle left in its place. “So, Kalia, what’s so captivating in that book of yours that you almost missed the best coffee in town?” He nodded toward my cup. I tilted my head, considering him. “You are assuming I don’t already know that this place has the best coffee.” He raised an eyebrow. “Fair enough. But now I’m curious about the book.” I held it up, the cover facing him. “It’s a mystery novel. Keeps me on my toes.” He leaned in slightly, intrigued. “A mystery, huh? So, you like solving puzzles?”

Then I got back to my research again browsing through criminal cases described in news articles and web forums. An hour passed and I was tired of reading bloody stories that got me nowhere near something I could use in the novel, so I began to grumble on one of the mystery-crime forums. “Help me out. Have you heard of any interesting murder case nowadays? I swear, I’m not a psycho, I’m a writer begging for an inspiration,” I hoped that sounded convincing enough. No one was answering. I’d waited for an hour and got little bit frustrated. I was about to get back to my previous way of research but then someone replied.

I think I need to find him… but if I do, how can I find him when I don’t know what he looks like? Will he come to my rescue? Will he end these mysteries?
