But he was finding it difficult swallowing this because he knew it was a lie. When Nancy had said she had regained her memory, he had looked towards Rodney expecting to see shock but though he had not been laughing outrightly, there was something like a smug satisfaction in his eyes before he had looked away, wearing the mask of someone who was being wronged. If Nancy had indeed regained her memory, why did she not say so this morning? She had been her quiet self as always and before one fully regains their memory, he had been told that they had flashes. The flashes gradually become regular and then the full memory comes back and the patient understands and recalls what had been eluding them

But for me… everything had changed. The flashbacks came in fragments at first. His cold, detached offer. My hesitation. The pain of his touch, the pressure of his body against mine. I had been so numb last night, emotionally deadened by everything that had happened with Nathan. But now, in the pale morning light, I felt everything. The shame, the guilt, the disgust. It all hit me at once, and I could feel the tears welling up behind my eyes.

My lips tremble, and I fight back the tears and the lump forming in my throat. Flashbacks of darkness appear. I can’t see Micah, but I can hear him. He whimpers in pain but continues to fight the vampires off. I reach my arms out, trying to feel him, to help him, but as I feel myself getting closer to him. I snap out of the flashback, and he is gone. ‘Micah!’ I yell, breathing heavily. Hugging myself, I return to my room and shut the terrace doors.

My Alpha slapped me in the face one last time, finally causing me to finally lose consciousness. I wake up a week later in the pack hospital, covered in cuts, bruises and with a cast on my ankle. It turns out that they had come really close to actually killing me, that day. * End Flashback * I sat in Nathan's arms and cried. NATHAN'S POV

There was a pause on the other end, and I could almost picture the worry in his eyes. "Do you want to talk about it?" I hesitated, the memories of the nightmare still vivid in my mind. "It was..." I sniffled, wiping my face as I sat on the edge of the tub leaning towards the toilet, and tried to breathe. "I... I had a flashback earlier. I-I didn't think anything of it, but it was... it was so much worse in the dream. I kept trying to run but I couldn't get anywhere..." I sniffled. "I couldn't..."

"You can choose your path without the weight of the universe on your shoulders." I had looked at him then, truly looked, and saw the loneliness in his eyes. It was a fleeting moment of vulnerability, one that he rarely showed. ——FLASHBACK ENDED—— The harsh reality snapped back into focus. Those moments were gone, replaced by the bitter present. I hate getting flashbacks from things I don’t want to remember.

The surrounding air is still, but it’s the type of stillness that brings problems. My fingers graze the wall as I flip the switch. Light floods the room, and I bend over, throwing up on the floor. I drop to my knees, my legs too shaky to move me further. I look at the carnage in front of me, my eyes blurring with tears. It can’t be, it just can’t be. My head falls back, and a sharp cry escapes my lips. *End of Flashback*
