Then blackness. Shit. I finally come to the realization that I was taken. I test my body for injury, but find only old scars and working limbs. I feel no pain, but I cannot escape the icy bite of the marble. I look around for my bag and I find it thrown in a corner of the tomb I have found myself in. I remove the clothes and dress myself in layers. I warm myself enough to stop shaking and I find myself fatigued from my shivers.

The cold was too intimidating that my body functions started to shut down slowly. "Well, I guess you don't know her," Nina looked at the picture with disgust, then crouched back down. "Take a closer look." I avert my eyes at the picture and then at Nina, only to look back. No clue. I didn't answer. "I guess the cold is making you silent. I don't blame you. It is kinda chilly in here," she chuckles sinisterly. Bitch! We're inside a fucking freezer. What else can it be? A sauna?

He hit the primary cooling vat below, the liquid nitrogen instantly encasing his body in a jagged tomb of violet ice. I stood on the balcony, my chest heaving, the glow slowly receding from my skin. Below me, the Ghost Alpha and the Apex were locked in a death grip, the fate of the world hanging on the next heartbeat.

The butler hurriedly said, “But it is getting cooler now, and the temperature is still getting lower and lower. You will catch a cold if you stay outdoors for a long time.” “It’s okay.” Nanako smiled as she said, “I will wait until midnight. After that, no matter whether it is already snowing or not, I will go back to my room to soak in the hot spring. Watanabe-san, you don’t need to worry, and you can rest assured. Even though I am injured now, I still have a relatively strong physical fitness level. The cold temperature will not affect me at all.” The butler nodded helplessly as he said respectfully, “I will be nearby. Miss, just call for me if you need anything at all.”

"It's cold! Like, freezing cold! I thought you said this was a sacred pool, not a glacier!" Ronan stood perfectly still in the center of the water, which only came up to his mid-thigh. The temperature didn't seem to bother him at all. He simply held me close for a long moment, letting his immense body heat bleed through the thin white cotton of our shirts. I could feel my shivering gradually subside as his warmth enveloped me, chasing away the worst of the cold.

“What’s inside?” Lira looked at her. “If I had to guess? The next version of you.” A wave of heat blasted upward as a platform slowly rose from the pit sleek, black, ice-lined. Cryo-sealed tanks lined its edge, each encased in reinforced alloy, frost still clinging to the glass. Figures floated inside. Unmoving. Perfect. They looked like her. Sera froze. One of them opened its eyes. And stared directly at her. Adrian raised his weapon. “Oh, hell no.”

Chapter 84: The Old Sawmill Luca and Ethan crawled from the icy creek bed, slick with black mud that clung to every fibre of their clothing. The cold had been brutal, searing their lungs, but the sludge offered a brief shield against Maxwell’s thermal sensors. Ethan’s ribs throbbed with each laboured breath, yet the cold had muted the pain just enough for him to move. Their bodies shook violently, teeth chattering, limbs trembling as if their muscles themselves had forgotten how to obey.

Recorded message from Maya: "This is Maya Chen, coordinator of the Northeastern Confederation. We're survivors, not military. We're here because Dr. Navarro at the CDC traced the climate cycles to your facility. We're not here to attack. We're here to help. We know the freeze was accident. We know you've been trying to fix it. We want to work with you. We want to prevent the next cycle. If anyone inside that facility wants to talk, wants to find solution together, respond to this frequency. We'll be listening." The broadcast repeated on loop. Every thirty minutes. Maximum range.
