I was thankful when the door opened again and Faye and Lena walked in. Lena came in slowly, like a person at the SPCA who has just seen the puppy for them. She covered her hands with her mouth, and I expected to see tears in her eyes until I remembered she wasn’t capable of that. She dropped to her knees next to Bonnie, and in the sweet voice I fully anticipated to hear, said, “Hi there, precious. How are you?” Bonnie eyed her with caution, but I could tell she knew that they were more alike than different. “Fine.” Her voice was guarded but not unfriendly.

I wiped my face, glad I hadn’t done my makeup yet. “Are you nervous?” I asked. Damien nodded, not bothering to look up from his phone. Bonnie bursted into the room. The bright magenta of her dress was an eyesore. “Daddy, please zip my dress.” She was bouncing as she admired her reflection. “Hold still, Bonnie.” Damien was struggling. I imagined the zipper breaking and felt immediate guilt. Bonnie may have looked like she was imitating a certain purple dinosaur, but she was happy. “I can help.” I moved toward them.

Bonnie felt her heart flutter when her mother's sweet smooth voice spoke through the phone. "Mom." Bonnie said softly. "Bonnie? Is that you?" Aretha asked hopefully. "It's me." Bonnie said, her tears building up. "Where are you? Are you okay? Did somebody hurt you?" Aretha asked. "Listen mom I can't explain all that right now. I need you to come and get me before Lorenzo finds me. I'm at-" Bonnie paused, "I'm sorry, where is this place?" She asked the two guys. "Bakers Town." They answered, laughing as one of them took a swig from the beer he was drinking.

You have to walk down with Bonnie.” Bonnie’s dress was lace with embroidery around her cuffs and hem. The back was see through and fit tightly to her form. The neckline was low, allowing Branden to mark her. “Bonnie, you look amazing.” “It feels funny not having Mom and Dad here. That damn hurricane had to come now.” “They are safe at the rescue center, and you don’t have to worry about them.”
