Once his fingers grazed the familiar buttons, he pressed one, and immediately, the doors burst open as two large guard dogs rushed into the room. In an instant, Kaidën's grip loosened, and he fell to his knees, curling into a ball as he began to whimper and beg. Nine took a moment to catch his breath as he lay on the table, coughing and pressing a hand to his neck, massaging the sensitive spot. He had barely made it this time. As Kaidën lay on the ground in a docile state, Nine retrieved the broken half of his walking stick and began to strike him with it. Kaidën crawled forward, taking each hit as his skin broke under the blows. Better him, than Asher.

I slammed his head into the wall and pinned him down with my knee. “Which door,” I growled. “Tell me.” He spat at me. Wrong answer. I twisted his wrist until he screamed. “Alright! Room 9—last on the left!” I punched him out cold. Room 9. I stormed down the hallway, blood pounding in my ears. My hand wrapped around the knob. Locked. Of course. I turned and saw the ring of keys on the fallen guard’s belt. Took them. Jammed the right one in. The door creaked open.

This time more easily. "He said third by the right." Miles muttered looking around and then at the key card he was holding in his hand. "Room 8593" "Okay there." Miles said holding his luggage. He wasn't wearing his glasses that means he can't see to a long distance. He has a sight problem. "8589....8590.....8591.....8592......and here 8593" he said looking at the door next to the one he was standing. But he halted when he saw a man lying limp in front of the apartment door.

Another text from Vorian. “Passcode is 4729.” I punch it in, my fingers trembling, and the door clicks open. I step inside, and my breath catches. I am staring, frozen, my eyes wide, not believing what I am seeing.

I say. "I know," Bastien says. He is not arguing. He is already past that. "We hold here. Ninth floor is the most defensible. One elevator, one stairwell access, both controllable." He looks at Soren. "Get our people to both access points. Nobody comes up without clearing me directly." Soren moves. Bastien looks at Nadia. "Take Ruth to the interior room at the end of the hall. No windows. Lock it from inside and do not open it for anyone except me or Soren."

Silas followed, slamming the door and locking it just as a net slammed against the steel from the outside, sparking as the silver wires made contact.
