THE ART OF FALLING
Trisha said, plopping onto the couch, “but at least here you won’t be scared every five minutes.”
Nora smiled faintly. “It’s perfect.”
“You’re lying.” Trisha raised an eyebrow. “Your lips say perfect, but your eyes say I’m still terrified.”
Nora closed her eyes. “Maybe a little terrified.”
The first night, Nora slept longer than she had in weeks, though her dreams were restless. Shadows of the accident and her parents hovered faintly, but they didn’t consume her. When she woke, the morning sunlight was soft on her skin, and for the first time in a long time, she felt a tentative sense of peace.
