It’s quiet and peaceful, and without Alice or anyone else here, I finally feel like myself for the first time since I’ve come to this castle. I easily spend an hour scouring just one bookshelf and come away with a stack of novels to read. With a smile on my face and my arms heavy with books, I waddle over to the seating area beneath the large window with the stained glass rose at the top and plop myself down to read. The first novel I pick up is the first in a series about a young female detective who is working on a murder case. It’s a page-turner, and within half an hour I’m already several chapters in and completely enthralled.

“Only if you read it out loud.” I raised a brow. “Really?” “Yeah,” he said, pulling me closer. “I like your voice. And I like the way your mouth moves when you’re focused.” I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks heated anyway. I reached over, grabbed the worn novel, and settled back on his chest. He rested one hand on my thigh and the other behind his head, looking completely at peace. I flipped to the first page and started reading. It was a story where a girl leaving a town that no longer felt like home, finding herself in unfamiliar places, learning how to build something new from all the pieces that used to hurt.

He hands me the book and I look it over before opening it. “I think this will be of some help to you, I can help you with focus and direction.” I look at a few pages of the book, it has detailed accounts and explanations on how to fulfil different ‘desires’. It shows intricate symbols, circles and some of the symbols look like they are glowing. “What language is this?” Zylith asks and I look up at her. “What do you mean, it’s English.” Sure some of the words were difficult and new but Zylith was far from dull.

Besides, it’s kind of boring to read the same plot repeatedly; boy meeting the girl, girl meeting the boy, starting from simple infatuation to attraction, then one of’em will confess, and BAM! They start dating and blah blah blah. It’s predictable. I’d rather read genres like adventure, action, crime, thriller, fantasy, etc., where things’re not much predictable plus you’ve to use your brain. At least you can learn something new. “Here w

I couldn't get lovingly involved after my last failed relationship, and I couldn't get enough inspiration to write something beyond fantasies and supernatural worlds. I wanted to write a simple and easy-to-read novel. Something like a real soap opera, that was attractive and captivating.
