Shadows leaped, thickening into a dome over her head, but this wasn’t a neat beam or a discrete hazard—it was a chunk of the environment itself giving way under the strain. Her barrier caught part of the impact. Only part. The slab punched through, slowed but not stopped, heading straight for her ribs. “Selene!” I choked. There was no time to write on the floor. There is no time to reach a shelf. Only air between falling ceiling and her body. I didn’t think. I just stabbed the pen at the collapsing mass and dragged it sideways. The door suddenly closed and she pushed me to the big hole and in an instant, I fell. I fall and fall like there is no end. “Aaaahh!!!” I shouted because of the never-ending fall. I saw her watching me fall with her cold eyes and emotionless face. I keep on falling like I was falling from a very tall building. The pressure is pulling me down. I don’t know where my falling ends but this is better than getting stuck in a place full of agony and hatred. I keep on falling and falling and falling…

My body dropped instantly, just like a kite that had lost its string. The wind screamed in my ears as I fell. Faintly, I could still hear the manic laughter coming from the twelfth floor. The overwhelming weightlessness wiped out every thought in my mind. Then, my body crashed into the ground with a violent impact. It felt like every bone in me shattered at once. Pain shot through me like sharp knives, spreading from my right leg throughout my entire body. I could feel the bone in my right leg break. The agony was so intense that I couldn’t stop myself from groaning. Sweat and tears poured out uncontrollably, soaking my clothes in seconds.

First I wobble on my feet when I try to reach higher and grab the tampon which of course makes me lose balance, I try to keep myself from falling by holding onto the woman’s shoulders but that is an even more terrible idea because she obviously hates me and wants me off her body as soon as possible. I know this because she pushes my hand away which has me reeling back. But I’m not one to give up so easily so I grab her shirt and we both tumble down to the ground. It would have been fine if our encounter ended her but of course not, I don’t have such good luck. The woman had unfortunately tried to grab the shelf to avoid falling down but like me she had failed and only sent all the tampons on

“Lessons.” The ground trembled beneath their feet. Cassian and Dorian moved instinctively, standing on either side of Lena, their weapons drawn. Lena’s fingers itched. The air crackled. Nova looked around again. Nothing. She was completely exposed. Another howl echoed through the forest. Closer this time. Nova’s stomach dropped. Then suddenly an idea hit her. Slowly she looked upward toward the massive trees surrounding her. “…You know what? I hate this plan already.” Still better than becoming Hollowfang dinner. Nova grabbed onto the rough bark and started climbing. Immediately she regretted everything Her arms burned almost instantly while her boots slipped against the bark. Another howl sounded through the woods “Hurry hurry hurry—”

I’m ripped backward toward the wall overlooking the cliff at the same moment the wall behind the grand wizard shatters, and he’s sucked into the storm, falling into the rubble below. “FALLON!” Zayn shouts, whirling toward me, but it’s too late. I was wondering why the wall didn’t stop me. My fingers slip over the edge of the corridor, now nothing more than an open ledge to sure death. I careen, head over heels, toward the brutal waves, the world spinning out of control. I’m tangled in my cloak. I can’t tell up from down as I fall. “Goddess-dammit,” I rush out and then brace for impact.
