“Lessons.” The ground trembled beneath their feet. Cassian and Dorian moved instinctively, standing on either side of Lena, their weapons drawn. Lena’s fingers itched. The air crackled. And then— The floor beneath them collapsed. Falling into the Abyss Lena barely had time to react before the world tilted. She fell fast, the wind rushing past her ears, stone and dust tumbling alongside her. Cassian shouted something, but she couldn’t hear it. Once there, I walked over to the bed and nearly fell on my way. "Alexis are you okay?" I heard James ask but my vision was blurry as dark spots appeared. "Yeah just...." I didn't get to finish my sentence because the next thing I knew, I was falling but luckily I didn't hit the floor as James scooped me up in his hands and placed me on my bed. "What's going on?" I heard Nick ask but his voice seemed further away. He kept asking but James didn't say anything as he ran into my bathroom and returned with my pills in one hand and water in the other.

Until now. The flashlight fell from Scott’s hands, hitting the floor with a dull metallic sound. It rolled away, down the stairs, each successive THWANG echoing over and over all the way to the bottom, and it was like watching an old black and white film with no sound, in slow motion: Scott, falling backwards into the room. Jesse, crying out silently, reaching for Scott’s hands, Scott’s mouth working as he fell . . . For several precious seconds Scott Kretch was airborne, and Jesse thought for a moment that maybe Scott could fly.

She sniffed, walking inside, feeling a bit depressed that she didn’t get that hug. Selena walked after her, bombarding her with questions, “What happened? Why didn’t you call me? How can you be so careless? Was that why you went to the hospital?!” “I fell down.” Cassandra mumbled, throwing herself on the couch, staring up to see the cat’s tail sashaying from the ceiling fan. She also noticed how the lamp of the fan was missing.

I wasn’t ready to talk about that particular day but knowing Cass she wasn't about to let it go. “It wasn’t an accident” I simply said, staring at my hands. “It wasn’t? I can never forget that day as long as I live. You were coming towards us in the cafeteria with your tray and then you slipped and fell. Everyone else started laughing until they realized you weren’t getting up. Oh god! When we rushed to where you were there was so much blood, I have never seen that much blood my entire life. We knelt beside you and Liam screamed for someone to get the nurse. He looked crazed when he pushed Trevor aside and knelt beside you.” Cass whispered before continuing, the horror of that day still etch
