Nox let out a low, guttural sound in the back of his throat. “I swear to you as an Alpha and your mate that they won’t get away with what they’ve done to you. I’m going to kill them all. I’m going to wipe Gideon’s pack from the fucking map, and destroy every camp, safe house, and facility Phineas owns. Once we’re done, there won’t be anyone left to hurt you.” I licked at my dry lips and croaked, “I want to help. I—I need to help.” Nox grabbed a glass of water from the beside table and pressed it into my hands. I nearly dropped it, marveling at how cold the condensation felt against my skin. I guzzled it so quickly that my stomach clenched painfully.

I don’t know what I was looking for, but I could feel something waiting. “Hello Amy.” A giant dark wolf walked out of the blackness and sat in front of me. I don’t even know how I was seeing the wolf, but it was like she gave off an inner light. Her golden eyes starred into mine and I lifted a hand. I touched the crescent moon of white fur on her forehead and I knew this was Nix. “Hello Nix.” “How do I look?” “Big. Bigger than any wolf I have ever seen.” “That’s because I am,” she chuffed, and then turned to walk away. “You are not done. Keep looking.”

The scent hits us, and before we even have time to react, we are attacked. We are able to throw the hybrid off of us easily. Hybrids may be strong and fast, but we are stronger and faster. Nyx bites down on his arm, making him release an inhumane roar. He tries to shake us off, but we hold down, sinking our teeth deeper until we hear a bone break. With a kick to our gut, we temporarily lose our grip. Nyx digs her hind legs into the dirt as she growls at him, her ears pulled back, his blood still dripping from our mouth.
