I thought to myself as I reached the hall. As I entered the lecture hall for my first class, I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. The room was filled with students, all eager to begin their academic journey. I chose a seat near the back, hoping to avoid drawing too much attention to myself so what happened earlier would not be repeated but my efforts were of little use. Immediately I stepped into the hall, everywhere became silent again, although I loved the quite, I hated the chattering that came after. She was supposed to express shock at seeing me after so many years but she obviously doesn't know who I am at all,’ I said. Getting up from my seat, I started pacing. ‘It is called selective memory loss. I guess her mind had a reason to wipe that off,’ the doctor said. ‘Of all the people she could forget, her mind chose to wipe off all the memories of my existence? How convenient?’ I hissed.

She says curiously. “I don’t think they could if they wanted to. I’ve been spelled. This bracelet is a protection charm.” he flashes a bracelet hidden by magic. “Can I see that?” She asks “I’ve always wanted to learn how to do that” she says. “Sorry” he shakes his head no. “That's all I got of her” he sighs before getting up. “Leaving again?” She asks playing with his glass of wine before chugging it. “Yeah, I'm gonna try to find some research on spells for memory. Hell maybe I’ll even find a witch who can actually do it” his words cut through her like a knife. So bitter yet so sweet. What made him so heartless she thinks to herself.

Whilst the churchyard still had mourners and the odd funeral due to instructions in a will, the land was mostly left untended and the old memorials were lost in a mass of weeds and ivy. Those below were dust now, or crumbling bone. If any ancestors remained, they were long forgotten. Memories didn't bow down or perform duties. "I have gotten nowhere by hesitating," Am-Heh whispered to himself as he dragged a claw across the prominent vein in his wrist. Blood spilled from under the jagged point, cascading in droplets onto the parched ground.

I had found my way in to an unfamiliar place filled with dead bodies and of people wailing and gnashing their teeth. I stood there and examined the whole scene before I was practically dragged away my nurse maid. That experience was so horrific for me that to be able to cope, the young me had erased that memory and it was almost like I never saw the things that i saw in the first place but now, being in a familiar place must have brought it back and it brought it back at full force. “BLEU CAN YOU HEAR ME???!!!!” I try again hoping that I would get an answer this time but yet again, it was all to no avail.

The grandfather clock in the grand hallway of the Silvercrest packhouse struck midnight, its heavy, rhythmic ticks echoing like a countdown through the silent room. Evelyn Vance sat perfectly still on the edge of the leather armchair, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The silver band on her left ring finger felt exceptionally heavy tonight, cold against her skin. Three years. For exactly one thousand and ninety-five days, she had worn that ring, and for those exact same days, she had been a ghost in her own home.

"I remember-" he nearly seems to give out a giggle. "Remember in those dreams of ours? How over and over they wanted us to remember so bad? What do you think would happen if we couldn't? If our brains forced us to forget." He reminisces, I don't have time for this. Well, actually I do have time. We don't have much to do. No- I don't have much to do. Yet, I don't want to be here longer than I have to. Every moment doesn't feel right.

Its vapor had lingered on his worn out leather jacket. Nearly fainting, she’d stopped struggling and just let it happen: in the silent hope, he would climb off of her, and she would just be able forget it. She had: not repressed, not processed, but forgotten about it. Forgotten things, however, aren’t forever gone: they have a way of returning to you. Sights, smells, sounds. Every single sense can conjure up a memory, and then the pictures would build up in front of you again, like an angry giant. ‘That has to have been traumatizing,’ Helen would be told. ‘Not really,’ she would only answer, because she didn't want to be traumatized.

“They are forgetting.” The words left my mouth slowly. Quietly. But they felt heavy, like stones falling into deep water. Kieran stared at me with confusion. His eyes searched my face as if he hoped I was wrong. “What do you mean they are forgetting?” he asked. His voice was low. Careful. I shook my head slowly. “I mean exactly what I said.” A pause stretched between us. Then I whispered, “Their memories are disappearing.” Kieran frowned. “That is impossible.”

Fearing. "You must forget them." The Forgotten One says simply. "Your mates. Your family. Your love. You return to life. You live your mortal years. You die naturally. Immune to the Absolute because you forgot why you wanted to live. Forgot who you loved. Forgot what made you desperate. You become immune through amnesia. Protected through forgetting. Free through loss." Horror crashes through my fading consciousness. "I have to forget my family? My mates? My Luna? My Hope? Everyone I love? That's the price?"
