Unable to stop the corner of my mouth from twitching upward, I leaned back in my chair. “Are you okay?” I asked, my voice laced with the slightest hint of sarcasm. She didn’t respond right away. Instead, she stood, rubbing the spot where she’d hit her head. It was an odd thing, seeing her this off-kilter. I kept my composure and continued eating. “I’m fine,” she answered quietly. I smile at him and just before walking out the door, I smell her again. Turning around, I watch as she moves from one corner of the room to the next. Her hands grasp his throat and in one smooth move, her claws sever his head. I don’t know how she does it, but her claws must be razor sharp, because with all the tendons, cartilage, and bone, she never stops until it is completely off in a matter of seconds.

A loud growl on the face was what she got before she could do what she intended.

A smile threatens to pull up the corners of my lips, but I push the smile down to avoid embarrassing her any more. Her hair lifts gently at the back of her head as she swings her head away from my view, bringing with it the scent of blood. I grab hold of her head gently, relishing the hitch in her breathing when my bare hands make contact with her face, the contact spreading more of those delicious tingles throughout our bodies.
