I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself. “Felix,” I say sternly. “You can’t say things like that in public.” “Fine,” he says. “Why don’t you also go wild and get some conditioner?” I smile, feeling relieved that he’s changed the subject. We browse through the store, picking out various hair products. We reach the women’s health section, and my eyes fall upon the tampons. Then the realization hits me like a ton of bricks. The last time I bought tampons was when I had just moved into Felix’s house.

Looking over, I see the small bag containing my toiletries, opening it, I dig around and decide to put the silver box under the tampons and pads. "Perfect," I whisper to myself. Men are men regardless of the species and won't even want to look past the tampons or pads.

My eyes dipped back to the page. I think he’s getting ready to choose a mate. My house is starting to look like a damn grocery store; I’ve got four different brands of tampons in the bathroom. Yesterday, it was nail polish. Nail polish. And then today, I realized I’d need nail polish remover to go with the damn things, and cotton pads to use the nail polish remover.

It always felt like I was wearing some diaper. I started buying tampons for myself and just taking the pads, leaving them in the bathrooms at school for anyone who might need them. I still don’t know why a grown man gets so unsettled by a perfectly natural thing. It’s ridiculous, honestly. I wonder if the brothers are as squeamish about menstruation and all that goes with it.

As I sit down on the toilet, holding up my gown, my sight lingers on the array of supplies Zeke and Zane had gotten me when I started spending the night here.
