Healing with the monster
I knelt on the wooden planks of the pier, my hand moving with a slow, deliberate focus as I wrote the first line of Chapter 136 directly onto the rough timber:
The loop was never an error. It was the first breath of the line.
I looked up at the rising sun, its golden light finally breaking through the heavy grey fog of the capital, illuminating the wide, open horizon of the south. We had no typewriter, no telegraph cables, and no digital signals left to carry our voice.
