Books Like One Hundred Years Of Solitude Novels & Stories

It’s the first real smell in the entire place. And books. Hundreds of them. Not decorator books arranged by color. Real books. Worn spines. Dog-eared pages. I run my fingers along the shelves. Financial theory. Biographies of Carnegie and Rockefeller. Philosophy. History. And fiction. I pull out a copy of The Count of Monte Cristo. The spine creaks. Pages are yellowed, soft as cloth. I flip through and stop at the margin notes inked in neat, sharp handwriting. "Revenge consumes the avenger," written next to a passage about Edmond Dantès.

I still had plenty of time to get ready and head to the club to meet Antony and his friends. I put my backpack on, locked the car, and went to buy that coffee. I sat on my favorite bench and enjoyed my coffee while I read my book. The book I borrowed from the public library was Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. People said it was really good and I agree with them. I swallowed the pages like I was famished! It was amazing so far and I was still on page forty-one. I sighed with satisfaction and thanked Cervantes for this pleasant distraction.

I even stumbled upon a book that belonged to the earlier Human Empire, which was eventually destroyed. I eventually chose a book, walked up to a seat, and sat down. The History of One Thousand Years. The Beast Kingdom was only mentioned in this one book, however, I'm not sure why that is. The book's title was neither innovative nor enticing. But I wasn't looking for a decent book to read, I was looking for knowledge on the Beast Kingdom. Dust was scattered everywhere when I opened the book. There was the odour of old wood that was hundreds or maybe thousands of years old.

In addition, she had filled the basket with plenty of tasty drinks that tasted like fruit juice. It was everything one could possibly want if they were going to lie on a blanket in the beautiful summer sun and read a book about elven history. I lay down on my stomach, placing the book in front of me. It was large and heavy. Just for fun, I flipped to the back—there were no fewer than four hundred and forty-nine pages in the book. And that was only volume one! I wondered how many volumes there were in total. I opened the big book and could smell the traces of time in it. All I hoped for was that it wouldn’t be too dry to read.

He asks with something in his voice I can't quite identify. "You don't know." I say with a slight chuckle in my voice. "Just pick one." I watch idle as he sifts through all the books until he picks one. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas. "That is one of my favourite books. Although I might just be biased because I love her writing." I lean back in the chair with a satisfied look on my face. "What makes you love someone's writing?" He sits back in his chair and looks at me curiously.

Layla sighed, "will you please read that book to me then? I don't understand it." Solomon looked over to the book Layla had been looking at. "That one? No, that one is boring. It's about trade embargoes." He walked over to the furthest book shelf and selected what appeared to be an old well-worn leather bound book. "This one is my favorite." He crawled into the bed beside her. As she laid her head onto his chest, he began to read it in its original language. To Layla it sounded like music and before she knew it, she had drifted off to sleep.

Since I didn’t own much, it didn’t take long. Then, I noticed something tucked beneath the bed. A navy blue journal. It was mine. Flipping it open, my eyes landed on memories I couldn’t recall but had once written. "Day one of our marriage. Shawn didn’t come home." "He said I was manipulative. That I drugged him to marry me. But I don’t even remember that night." "Attempt 1: He said even if I died in front of him, he wouldn’t flinch." "Attempt 100: If he still doesn’t care, and my parents still don’t love me, then maybe I’ll stop trying since no one in this world sees me."

The most appropriate book possible. Richard looks intrigued. Beth too. "What's it about?" "A man, born in the nineteen-thirties, who goes on to live over two thousand years. In life, he experiences every form of marriage other than life-long monogamy. The book is essentially a series of short stories taking photo snaps of his life. And it has some wonderful quotes." "Such as?" Which ones to choose? Not the ones I remember her reading to me.... Those are too sharp, too edgy for me to share...

Christmas was the reading of the book. This Christmas, Don's book was a novel—Norwegian, which was not a coincidence, a novel by the same writer whose essays were in the Norway reading programme. The novel was called The Dark Year, and it was about a man who spent a winter alone in a cabin in the far north of Norway, experiencing the full darkness for the first time. Don had been saving it since September, when he had finished the essays. He had placed it on the shelf above his desk, the designated holding place for the Christmas book, and had not opened it once.
