THE LIES THAT BIND
"I'm not sure what you're talking about, Sergei. I haven't been around much lately, but I don't recall ignoring any emails."
Sergei's voice grew louder. "Don't lie to me, Massimo. It's been almost two weeks. You know exactly what I'm talking about."
I felt a spark of annoyance. Sergei's tone was becoming increasingly rude, and I didn't appreciate it. "I don't know what you're insinuating, Sergei," I said, my voice firming up. "But I'm telling you the truth. I haven't been ignoring your emails."
Sergei's response was swift. "You're a liar, Massimo. And I promise you, I'll deal with you."
